At the end of next year, the construction of the Line Park in Belgrade should begin, a new attraction of the capital that will cover about 4.6 kilometers, and on whose conceptual solution 55 young people worked.

Each of the young architects worked on one of the park’s ten units, which will function as a cohesive unit. The park will start about thirty meters from the Concrete Hall and end at the Pancevo Bridge. That territory also includes the railway, which has not been in operation since the construction of Belgrade began on the water, and urban planner Marko Stojčić noted that “this will be the first time since that part of Belgrade was built that pedestrian corridors and bicycles will be able to approach the Danube “.

Although the park will mainly occupy public areas, Stojčić emphasized that it will “additionally enter the settlements on both sides as much as possible to connect it with the existing open spaces in the apartment blocks.”

Stojcic: Until now, nobody has dared to give young people a chance

– 127 participants from 28 teams applied to the public competition. We chose to apply exclusively in teams, because the idea was to be a multidisciplinary team and it was desirable that not only architects, but also people from complementary professions, apply. Among the 55 selected there are about 45 architects, and the rest are people from related professions. All teams had the task of working on the conceptual design of the same park and based on that, the jury selected 10 teams, so according to their affinities, we assigned each team one of the 10 units of the park, to that there were differences in arrangements and creativity. – says Marko Stojčić for “Blic”.

He points out that each part of the park is different: some have more green areas, while others have facilities for sports and culture. As he adds, “it was chosen that the architect design something that suits him.”

This is the first time that, as Stojčić explains, “someone dared to give young people a chance” to work on a city project of this kind.

– We realized that there is a great gap in the years between the generations that today are committed to serious projects for the city. the only way for young people to gain experience is to give them the opportunity to work for the city and thus earn it. The idea was that foreign architects could not participate in the competition because they have more experience and we wanted to develop a “national architectural force” – adds the city planner.

Regarding the duration of the works, it is certain that the construction works will extend during 2022 and 2023, and it is unknown if they will extend during 2024.

– The technical documentation should be ready in February, and by the end of next year we should start a public tender for the execution of the works of some of the complete units of the park. The exact number of units on which the works will begin at the beginning is not yet known, because it is necessary to resolve many property-legal relationships, such as the removal of the barracks. All these procedures will be carried out in parallel with the construction works in other units. After the adoption of the plan, when the building permit is obtained, we will know which units are safe for the execution of the works at the beginning, explains Stojćić.

Milena Vukmirović: We will form a “small urban forest”

Architects and people from complementary professions up to 40 years of age may apply for the public competition for this project. Milena Vukmirović (41) is one of those at the border at the time of registration, but she still belonged to the task force at Line Park.

With his team of three architects and three landscapers, he is working on the entire park number three, which will be located between the “Milan Gale Muškatirović” Sports Center and the K district. Then, this complex will extend from Vojvode Bojovića Boulevard to Tadeuša Street. Košćuška.

– Regarding the conceptual solution for this part of the park, the location itself is between two dominant spaces: the “Milan Gale Muškatirović” Sports Center, which was designed by Professor Ivan Antić on the one hand, and the K district, ie , the Belgrade Fortress on the other. Our goal is not for the park to compete with either of these two spaces, but to be a link between them. The diagonal of the park connects the Belgrade Fortress with the Danube. Below the part facing the Danube, there will be a stop for the waterline taxis. Milena Vukmirović says “Blic”.

He adds that in this part of the park, the objective is to form a “small urban forest”, that is to say. Intensive landscaping with about 300 seedlings, among which are carefully evaluated species that can survive on these lands.

Milena has been involved in urban design for many years, has a PhD in the Belgrade pedestrian zone network and works at the Faculty of Forest Sciences. She also worked as an advisor to the city’s main urban planner, Milutin Folić, on the design of the city’s public spaces.

– I have worked on city projects of a similar type before. I worked both during my studies and after them, and I participated in the Ada Huja edition and the Sava Square contest – explains Milena.

Regarding his expectations regarding the duration of the works in the Parque de la Línea, he points out that “in urban planning, speed is relative.”

– In the next 10 years, the entire move should be completely transformed. It is not yet known what will happen to the onion and where it will move. The duration of the works depends on a good communication between the authorities and the investors and participants in the project, that is, the contractors – concludes Milena.

Dragana Ćiprijanović: in one of the buildings is the Railway Museum

Dragana Ćiprijanović (31) with his team, consisting of three architects, an urban planner, a builder and a biologist, works in a total of nine Line Parks, which are located mainly in the municipality of Palilula, but also partly in the town old. On the border between these two municipalities, it includes the part just before the Pancevo bridge, as well as the Danube station.

– It is very important to maintain the spirit of the place where this segment of the park will be located. The whole movement is closely related to infrastructure. The Railway Museum should be moved to one of the buildings because the building it is currently in is small. The railway platform has been restored and will be a space for cultural events – says Dragana.

He adds that the objective of this team is to maintain the spirit of the place in terms of functionality and aesthetics.

– That part is dominated by light pink, that is, the color of the bricks, which we included in the project by manipulating natural colors, in order to then be able to show young people what this part of the city was like – he explains.

Dragana points out that it is possible that the works in this part of the park will take time due to the buildings on the road and that would have to be demolished, “because it is not only a legal issue, but also a social one.

His team applied for the contest because they worked on various projects both in Serbia and abroad and wanted to contribute to their city.

Dusica Totic: We will create an oasis of tranquility

Dušica Totić with her 10 colleagues from the team, which consists of architects, landscapers, civil engineers and engineers with experience in sustainable construction projects between 25 and 41 years, is working on four, which borders Dunavska Street on the south side, in the West. sides with Tadeusz Kościuszko Street, while the northern border is on May 25. There is a pedestrian walkway known to all Belgrade inhabitants on the spot.

– With the blueprint, we proposed a park in which the city’s infrastructure, natural renewable energy resources and the ecosystem work cohesively to increase comfort, functionality and protection from harmful influences on the city’s fabric .

By using natural resources, the park’s comfort and sustainability have increased and it has been possible to use and live in all four seasons. We wanted the users of the park to be informed about the possibilities offered by these systems: generating solar electric energy, controlling humidity, wind and sun, storing and filtering rainwater – explains Dušica.

The topography of the terrain of the new park is dynamic and rugged, with the objective of protection against noise, creation of environmental units and spatial activities. For protection against wind gusts, a system of earth embankments and evergreens is used in the prevailing winds that are present in the period from autumn to spring.

– Noise pollution is solved by various plant structures and earth embankments along Dunavska Street. The choice of vegetation simulates the natural wild environment suitable for the development of bees and local plant species, adds Dušica.

He also points out that in this place there are planned “two pavilions integrated into a rugged terrain with space for education and culture, two playgrounds for children, an amphitheater, open picnic areas, widening of pedestrian paths with rest area, area outdoor recreation, bicycle facilities. ” and cut tracks and park bicycles. “

Dusica is part of a well-coordinated team that entered this contest because “she feels the local patriotism and cultivates a great love for her city.”

– That’s why we really liked the announced contest. For years, architects have been studying and analyzing the location of the line park. The very idea of the contest as a green oasis in the center of the city was very attractive to us. As the invitation was for young teams, we felt that we should participate – he explains.

He says that some of the team members worked in public spaces in the city. His team participated in similar competitions in Italy, but this is their first project of its kind in Belgrade.
