LETTER FROM RUSSIA: These words were read at the funeral of Patriarch Irinej

– With a feeling of deep pain, I received the news of the death of my brother, Metropolitan of Belgrade and Karlovac and Patriarch Irinej. On behalf of the archpriests and monks of the Russian Orthodox Church and on my own behalf, I express my condolences for the great loss suffered by the fraternal Serbian Orthodox Church. God gave the church of Saint Sava a wise patriarch who subordinated his life to his spiritual care. Full of true Christian love for people, the patriarch, sparing no strength, always tried to be with his flock and rejoice with the joyful and cry with those who cry. And in the last hour of his earthly life, Irinej shared his sufferings with those believers who were interrupted by a terrible epidemic. With his sublime authority and sacred canons, he did much for the unity of orthodoxy. He was a great friend of the Russian Orthodox Church and spoke several times in support of canonical Orthodoxy in Ukraine. The completion of the internal layout of the Temple will go down in history as one of the major achievements of his patriarchal service. May the Lord Jesus Christ rest the soul of his new servant, eternal and sweet memory for him – said the Patriarch of Moscow.
