The Speaker of the Serbian Assembly, Ivica Dačić, and the Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government, Marija Obradović, discussed the salaries of civil servants tonight and there were “minor political provocations” in the discussion.
Today, the deputies discussed the postponement of the introduction of salary grades to January 1, 2022, and Obradović explained in his final speech to the deputies that the reform and the introduction of salary grades were not abandoned.
Obradović affirmed that the state is the largest employer and that is why the set of laws is important before the deputies, and that in a year, while implementation is delayed, meetings with all parts of the public sector will intensify.
“If we want to maintain the best quality, we need a fair form of evaluation, and we will work on that,” Obradović said.
As a long-term politician, Dacic asked the minister to, as he himself said, also ask the former minister Branko Ruzic, to correct some illogics.
He asked what the logic is that, for example, a deputy general secretary of the assembly has a higher salary than a deputy or president, or that deputy ministers or heads of cabinet have higher salaries than ministers.
“It is not logical. Believe with your own eyes and change the laws. It has always been like this. Nothing has ever dared. Now you have support for something like that. Here, the Assistant Secretary General (Assembly) has a salary of 130,000 dinars. How much do you have deputies? ” Dacic asked.
He also affirmed that the heads of independent bodies have salaries several times higher than those of the President of the Republic.
Obradović replied that he had raised an interesting topic that journalists were waiting for.
She added that as a young minister, she feels honored to be a member of the government and that financial compensation is not a priority for her, but in that sense, she says, it may be one of the few.
“When he’s in the executive branch long enough, like you, he might think differently,” Obradovic said.
Dacic responded that he did not raise the issue, but that he proposed wage laws and explained that everything he said was not about money but about the integrity of the functions.
“So next time, let’s run for the chairmanship of the Fiscal Council or the undersecretary. I’m talking about illogical,” Dacic said.
