The “Let’s not drown Belgrade” initiative (NDMBGD) estimated that the first battle to save the forest in Kosutnjak was won, but that the fight does not end until the urban plan is formally rejected.
“We don’t believe a single word from the people in the city government who have lied to the public countless times in the past … Although we can hear from all sides that the government is being bulldozed by investors and promises that there will be no cuts. On the other hand, the activities allow construction to continue in the Kosutnjak area, “the initiative warned in a statement.
The initiative also protested the allegedly shameless media turn of the Serbian Progressive Party and some tabloids that tried to take credit for stopping construction in that urban forest, though the decision followed a clear public backlash to protect Kosutnjak.
“In order not to allow their defeat to be visible, the criminal government and its propaganda machine are trying to present themselves as the protector of the forest … Ads in the media in which they promise not to cut down, declare themselves protectors of nature, and on the other hand On the other hand, to continue with the activities planned in the adoption of the plan, we consider manipulation and an attempt to deceive citizens ”, he adds.
NDMBGD noted that Kosutnjak’s defense petition was signed by 76,000 citizens online and several thousand more in the stands of that organization across Belgrade.
“The initiative Let’s not drown in Belgrade will not stop until the Detailed Regulation Plan for the Avala Film area is formally rejected and construction, that is, deforestation, is not stopped,” the statement said, adding that the government, the media and investors must leave Kosutnjak alone. .
