Today, Leskovac is the city with the most recently infected inhabitants of the new coronavirus. With 21 confirmed cases out of a total of 89 across Serbia in the past 24 hours, this city is not just the focus of the current epidemic.
The infection began to spread on a large scale with the Jura company plants in this city, whose workers warned and went on strike at the beginning of the epidemic due to the non-implementation of the preventive measures that were ordered to the companies.
“We had no masks, and most of us have no way of distancing ourselves from our colleagues because the production process is like this in Jura,” warned one of the workers in early April, when the protest “moved” in front of the plants. Nis from the same factory.
It should be remembered that both ended up in their jobs without the possibility of respecting distance in all sectors. Often there were more workers in the hallways than prescribed, although the first infected workers were registered in Leskovac in early April.
Today, there are around 50 of them with a positive test.
“There are 31 Jura workers in the hospital, luckily most of the newly infected have a clearer clinical picture, and that is very remarkable,” Leskovac hospital director Nebojsa Dimitrijevic told H1.
He recalls that among the 142 sick citizens who were hospitalized in this city, some fifty people from Leskovac and up to 40 residents from Vlasotince, and there are also patients from Bojnik and Lebane.
Dimitrijevic says there are around 200 free hospital beds in Leskovac, but he doesn’t expect that capacity to be filled, although he says the number of patients will increase because the contacts of sick “Jure” workers are being massively tested.
In the last 24 hours, seven cases of fewer infected people were discovered in Belgrade than in Leskovac, and the third is Nis with a total of eight new cases of coronavirus infection. Currently, there are more patients in the Leskovac hospital than in the Nis Clinical Center, where there are currently 125 patients.
