Branislav Lecic was elected the new chairman of the Democratic Party on Saturday. Only after the decision of the Ministry of State Administration and Local Autonomy will it be known if the elections are regular.
Lecic was the only candidate in the DS presidential elections organized by the current of Democrats opposed to Zoran Lutovac. While Lutovac claims that there were no elections and that Lecic is the president of the expelled former members of the DS, Lecic responds that there is no more electricity and division.
– The only former president here is Lutovac, there is no part of the party, the DS is made up of all those who paid for membership, that is 4,500 people, of which more than 72 percent voted and a new leadership was elected, representing the policy I presented “Three points for Serbia” – said Lecic.
He denied that the party he leads is cooperating with the ruling SNS. According to him, there are no more divisions in the DS.
– This process is over, there are no more divisions in the party, the party said what it has. This is the DS, I would like the voters to always decide and for it to be the same in Serbia. It is not about Lutovac and Lecic, but about whether we respect democracy. The DS is a party that is an institution of this state. It is well known that the votes of the members decide – Lecic explained.
Saturday’s election was marked by ugly scenes as several dozen members and non-members, led by DS Vice President Dragan Rakic, arrived at DS headquarters and smashed the ballot boxes and other election material. An argument and harsh words followed.
Rakic accused Vida Ognjenovic of being Vucic and she reminded him to address the DS Main Board members. The video shows the moment when Dejan Petrović breaks the boxes, and Dragana Rakić and Darko Simić are in his company.
– I have a bitter taste in my mouth and an unpleasant sensation due to today’s incident. It was an unusual performance, typical of other parties. This procedure is the one that best justifies why we separated. Those who ordered the removal of the sign in Nusiceva should be ashamed, Ognjenovic said.
Rakic said that Ognjenovic received money from the Serbian Progressive Party for his festival, which former DS president Bojan Pajtic denied.
– It is known that I thought similarly to the current leadership on the issue of boycott, membership in the SZS, “unification” … But, I have the obligation to say this. The festival organized by Vida Ognjenović is funded by the SNS government because the APV government in “our time” signed a long-term contract precisely because they would not cancel this magnificent event. So progressives must allocate funds for the “New Fortress Theater” because Vida Ognjenović would skin them in court for not doing so. However, it would be a scandal to cancel the festival organized by PEN’s long-term vice president, Pajtić wrote on Twitter.
The electoral assembly of the DS is scheduled for seven days, and then the mandates of Lecic and the elected vice-presidents will be confirmed. Other party organs will also be elected. Subsequently, the decision of the Assembly, with the confirmation of the Board of Directors, the announced elections and the votes, is submitted to the Ministry of State Administration, which decides on the registration of the new president. If the Ministry says that everything was done according to the law, Lutovac has the opportunity to appeal to the Administrative Court. Otherwise, Lecic and the new management have that right.
The steps of a new president
– The first step will be the organization of the Electoral Assembly, which will verify the result of the election, myself as president and my vice presidents. We will elect permanent members of the Board of Directors and other party organs. The second step is registration in the register of the Ministry of State Administration and Local Autonomy, followed by the consolidation of the DS through a campaign in the ten largest cities of Serbia, where we will present our program “Three Points for Serbia” and we will open the door to the renewal of the DS. , to the honest and respectable citizens for whom this party exists – said Lecic for “Blic”.
Who removed the DS plate?
Unknown persons removed the party name plate in front of the Democratic Party headquarters on Nušićeva Street, and the lock on the Democratic Party premises was changed. Former DS MP Balša Božović posted a video on Twitter showing an unknown person removing the board. He wrote that “Zoran Lutovac and Dragana Rakić are removing the last traces of the DS headquarters” and asked “on whose behalf they do this and on whose behalf”. Vida Ognjenović condemned the removal from the board and said he remembers when Zoran Đinđić and Vojislav Kostunica once laid the board.
