The text of the proposed amendments to the Law on Religious Freedom is ready and is being processed urgently, which, as the Minister explains, does not require a public hearing.
The controversial articles of the Law have been deleted and modified.
– The two hot topics of that Law are articles 62, 63 and 64, in which an attempt was made to resolve the matter of a property dispute only for a legal person before an executive body, a government body and not before a court. In the last report of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, it was said that those provisions should not have been there and we removed it – said Leposavić.
Registration and registration conditions have been specified to avoid confusion and tampering, says Leposavic. The aim of the changes is that all rights and obligations belong equally to all religious communities.
– In that sense, there is no discrimination in the Law between existing religious communities and those that will be in the future, that cannot be ignored, that is why there is a Law so that religious communities can, when they are organized and registered and recorded in public records. – said Leposavic.
The text with the amendments to the Law was sent to the religious communities.
The minister has already spoken with the representatives of some religious communities and awaits the formation of a working group that will work on the new law.
– Our commitment is that when these changes are adopted, they must be organized immediately, if the religious communities, not the politicians, organize a public debate and initiate the adoption of a new law, if the religious communities wish, with technical mediation from a state body – declared Leposavic.
Meetings with representatives of religious communities will continue next week.
