Milivoje M. (63), who was arrested yesterday by the Sabac police on suspicion of ordering the liquidation of his ex-wife Zorica J. (41), defended himself today in silence at the hearing at the Superior Public Ministry.

The prosecutor charges him with the crime of incitement to murder under article 113 of the Penal Code, for which he faces a prison sentence of 5 to 15 years. At the request of the prosecution, the investigating judge ordered the custody of Milivoje M. for up to 30 days for the possible influence on the witnesses and for not completing the act for which he is suspected.

Yesterday, the police handcuffed Milivoje M. after almost two months of operational work in this case. Last month, the police and the prosecution had information that Milivoje hired a man from Šapče to kill Zorica and that he was willing to pay him 5,000 euros.

He allegedly paid the man some of the money up front, but for less than two months, Šapčanin hesitated to honor the monstrous deal that he eventually sang about in the police force.

– This circumstance and the intense work that led the Police and the Prosecutor’s Office to confirm their knowledge about the planning and contracting of crimes contributed to preventing the murder. Whether the “third man” actually intended to commit the murder or simply take money from the person who ordered the murder is not relevant in this case. The man was released after giving testimony – says a source in the investigation.

Milivoje and Zorica got divorced in court last year after more than ten years living together. He couldn’t accept the fact that the marriage had broken up and that Zorica had gone her own way. Due to her ex-partner’s jealousy and possessiveness, Zorica supposedly survived hell from the day she moved out of the house. He lived in constant fear and feared for his safety.

This fall, her fears came true when two men brutally beat her in the street. It turned out that the “re-education” was ordered by the ex-husband with beatings, and this case is being handled by the Šabac Basic Prosecutor’s Office.

– Zorica realized that the beatings were only a warning and after that traumatic event she lived with even greater fear. She was constantly on guard because she knew him well and assumed what he was willing to do. In a short period, she too had police protection, said a source close to the victim.
