Today, at the exit of the Vatin crossing, the customs officers managed to discover and prevent the smuggling of 130 kilograms of marijuana hidden in the construction of a trailer truck that was heading towards Poland.
The violation was discovered in the early hours of the morning, not based on any report, but thanks to the hiring of customs officials on the regular shift, who are not the first to find contraband merchandise in the same place in the construction of the truck .
By the time the Paracin license plate truck with a trailer registered in the shadow plates, reached the line for the regular departure check, the experienced customs officials knew immediately, based on the application of analysis criteria of risk, that they had to verify in detail what the truck was actually transporting.
The truck had a so-called water trough inside the structure that is often used for smuggling, so customs officials put something inside to determine based on the sound if it is empty as it should be.
However, the sound they heard revealed that there was something inside, so a detailed check was carried out immediately.
130 kilograms of marijuana packed in 1 kilogram packages were hidden under the slats to make walnut parquet, which the truck was transporting as registered cargo.
The case was immediately reported to the police and the prosecutor’s office, in the presence of which the measurement was carried out in the merchandise office where conditions exist for the complete unloading of the truck.
The 40-year-old driver from Ljubovija was calm during the discovery of this crime, but this is possible thanks to the quiet tables that were discovered in his personal bag.
The driver, along with the discovered drug and truck, was handed over to the police and the Superior Prosecutor’s Office in Pancevo.
Stefanović: Prevention of the smuggling of 620 kilograms of narcotic drugs
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and the Minister of the Interior, Dr. Nebojsa Stefanovic, praised the members of the Border Police Administration.
– I would like to thank the Chief and members of the Border Police Administration who have prevented smuggling at the border crossings since the beginning of the year and seized around 620 kilograms of various types of narcotics. With their dedicated work, also this year, in which we face the corona virus, they showed an absolute commitment to the fight against crime and the protection of our country’s borders – said Stefanović.
