EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, said tonight that his office map was misinterpreted by those who claim that Kosovo is shown as part of Serbia.
“As the map in my office in the blurred image during my interview caused some misinterpretations today, I share your real photo up close. It is the official EU map.” Kosovo is there, as well as the line that separates Kosovo from Serbia “Lajcak wrote on Twitter.
Along with that message, he posted four photos of his office map, clearly showing that the line separating Kosovo from Serbia is significantly thinner than the lines representing state borders on the map, but is the same color as those. .
Unlike Kosovo, there is no dividing line between Vojvodina and the rest of Serbia on Lajcak’s cabinet map.
Lajcak later stated that today’s comments on the map were “an example of why the dialogue on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is so important, that similar issues would no longer cause misunderstandings.”
Earlier today, Kosovo’s Acting Foreign Minister Meljiza Haradinaj-Stubla asked Lajcak to start using a map in her cabinet, showing Kosovo as an independent state.
After a photo of Lajcak appeared in the media in front of a map showing Kosovo as part of Serbia, Haradinaj-Stubla said he sent him a map by diplomatic mail showing the separate states of Serbia and Kosovo and told him which would not be successful if you continued to do so, it will use “zombie maps”.
“Good afternoon, Mr. Lajcak: Maps are important! Working with zombie maps is extremely unprofessional, not to mention the shortcomings.” The longer you avoid the map I gave you, the more time you will lose on your work, “he wrote. Haradinaj-Stubla on Twitter.
A spokesman for the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, also reacted to Lajcak’s image, which sparked backlash in Kosovo, and wrote on Twitter that the claims about the map were unfounded.
“The statement on the map is completely incorrect and inaccurate. This official EU map is in line with the neutral status position of the European Union.” I would recommend that everyone focus on issues that help improve the dialogue on standardization. of relationships, rather than trying to make up false stories, “wrote Borel spokesman Peter Stano.
In Kosovo, Stan’s statement was commented on by the call that the EU, if neutral, does not use maps of the past because they are far from neutral regarding Kosovo’s status.
