BELGRADE – Epidemiologist Predrag Kon says that the epidemiological situation in Serbia is still uncertain, because the virus is present and the population is very sensitive.
“The situation is more favorable than it was, but it is unlikely that we will go down to zero. Belgrade had seven confirmed cases in one day, which is at least since June 1, when it had four new infections,” Kon told TV Pink. .
He stated that the situation is stabilizing, but that he is far from being able to relax. Talking about organizing concertsHe said that a situation is when one sits, listens to music and wears a mask, while the listeners are at a distance from each other.
“When singing, the distance should be greater. When singing loudly with loud music, the virus stays in the air. There, one person can infect 15 people,” Kon said.
Talking about the beginning of the school year and the fact that the virus appeared in a student at school, he said that the virus would surely enter schools, that there was no mistake, because no one stopped the virus.
He stated that the whole class and the teacher switched to online classes and that this would have no consequences for the other students in the class, because the children wore masks and respected other protective measures.
– The case that I know is asymptomatic. The child’s father is ill and the mother works in the covid red zone, so she took the opportunity to test the child for the benefit of a family member. The whole class was transferred to online classes, which is the first reaction. The system has been shown to work, in the future it is necessary for the local institutes of public health to be more involved, because this is a situation that can be expected in any department. If masks were used, there is no cause for concern and there will be no reason for the online classes either, said Dr. Kon as a guest on TV Pink.
When it comes to sanctions that can be borne by the parents of a child who was positively sent to school on September 1, Kon says that “there are situations where someone intentionally and knowingly makes mistakes, boycotts anti-epidemic measures and such a situation is for sanctions, “but he does not consider this to be the case this time.
– When something is adopted as behavior, then there is no problem. If we can get high school students to be our partners, the job is done. We will not have bigger associates from kids to fourth grade, they accepted the situation as it is. Who knows why it is good that we had a case like this on the first day. Nothing happened and we will continue more – concludes Dr. Kon.
“This has shown that the system works. Local institutes of public health must become more and more involved in everything. This is a situation that can be expected in any department,” Kon said.
He states that he is more concerned about high school students, who do not wear masks.
“I contacted Minister Šarčević. Youth must be understood and we must work with these children,” he said.
– For five places, I received information that they go out during the holidays, that they do not wear masks, that it happens en masse – says Kon.
