Kon: Staying on crisis staff is a patriotic obligation, we call for more restrictive measures

“The New Year holidays are approaching. Even if we manage to calm down a bit with these measures, with the behavior as usual, we will have a blast after the New Year,” epidemiologist Predrag Kon told H1.

In the weeks when there are twice as many patients in hospitals as in previous waves, four to five times more deaths and infections per day, the question arises as to where the mistake was made.

“It is not a question of error, it was decided not to perform the maximum closure here. It was decided like this. If it was decided to have the maximum closure, then certainly there would not be such large numbers, and at the same time life would stop,” says Kon.

N1: Should it have been decided to have a maximum close?

Could: Well, it’s not up to me to judge.

But it is to warn and pressure politicians. That is why, says Kon, he remains at the headquarters, although many times he does not listen to the measures recommended by the medical part of the crisis headquarters.

“Staying on crisis staff is something that is an obligation today. A patriotic obligation,” Conn believes.

N1: Regardless of the fact that the political part of the crisis staff does not listen to what is medically recommended?

Could: Does not matter. that’s my position, but not just mine.

N1: So what is the purpose?

Could: What is the purpose. you are there all the time as a conscience and as pressure on the political part of the Crisis General Staff.

N1: Although that pressure is not strong enough?

Could: And that. But it happens, nevertheless, with delay.

The measures were taken late. Those who could have avoided the scenario where more beds are needed in all hospitals. In which citizens wait in lines in front of the Kovid ambulance in the cold. Uncertainty about testing, as symptoms may not be severe enough.

“We asked for much more restrictive measures. Then it was simply said that it was unconstitutional. And now we only have these measures in place. Our biggest problem is not what happened, but what will come. We have to look forward. The New Year holidays are approaching “Even if we manage to calm him down a bit with these measures, by behaving as if nothing is happening, we will have an explosion after the New Year”, warns the epidemiologist.

It turns out that the Crisis General Staff united those who were on opposite political sides. These criticisms do not come only from the opposition and fellow doctors, who do not hesitate to vote, now the criticism comes from members of the ruling party, directly from the parliamentary bench, and the latter from television with national coverage.

“I took some statements from Mr. Kon, whom I respect, is our main doctor. But beware, on January 26, 2020, the risk for Serbia is small, the coronavirus is not transmitted soon. On February 26, 2020, his statement , the coronavirus is a disease. What we can deal with, the common flu is more dangerous than the coronavirus. March 14, 2020, if schools are closed for two weeks I resign.
Now why do I say all this? Because here we have established that the only measure is to take and close everything, “said SNS deputy Vladimir Đukanović.

The President of Serbia apologized to Dr. Kon and the crisis staff on Twitter during the program in which the SNS deputy had his speech. Although that reaction changed a man’s rhetoric in an instant, both citizens and crisis personnel are still in the storm.
