Epidemiologist and crisis staff member Predrag Kon assessed that the epidemiological situation in Serbia is deteriorating from unfavorable to emergency.
When asked by TV if the closure of the country is being considered, which is a step that many European countries have decided at the moment, Kon replied that “a certain type of closure is possible, that certain things are prohibited”, but that eventually the Restriction of circulation should be defined differently, and not as it was at the beginning of the epidemic, when the curfew was introduced.
Kon pointed out that the situation in Belgrade is critical with the number of people infected with the coronavirus, and that further transmission must be prevented to preserve the health system.
Regarding hospital capacities in Belgrade, he said that “what needs to be done” will be done and that room for accommodation will be found, probably outside the capital.
“There were 1,106 new infections in Belgrade yesterday and unfortunately we expect the increase to continue into the next week, but there will not be such a sudden increase, but we cannot be sure that it will happen,” Kon said.
Previously, on Facebook, he again called on citizens to avoid mass demonstrations.especially those with loud music and singing.
“We are not meeting at the Crisis Staff, and that should change. Secondly, the weekend is coming, and the weekend is the time when there are more infections in Belgrade due to those frequencies, contacts, especially in conditions where the music is at full volume, where we lean on each other, we shout to be able to hear ourselves better … Those situations should be avoided, ”Kon warned.
He stated that the health system has already demonstrated twice that it is ready and trained, but now it is exhausted.
