The epidemiologist and member of the crisis staff, Predrag Kon, said live on TV N1 that he affirms under total moral responsibility that “at no time was data hidden” on the number of infected and dead by kovid-19, and that “in no At the moment there were no hidden intentions, pointing out that it is clear that we are entering the third wave of the epidemic, but that it is “far from being at its peak.”

“We are still on the rise, which will continue. We have a good period of growth ahead and our attempts to flatten the curve. It is clear that we are entering the third wave, and currently Belgrade is predominantly the fastest in that growth,” Kon said. . In the last three days there has been a sharp increase in the number of coronavirus cases, especially in the capital, but this is not yet perceived through the influx of patients to hospitals.

Commenting on the latest data, according to which more than 500 new patients have been registered in Serbia in the last 24 hours, he says that the situation must be monitored on a daily basis and that therefore an extraordinary session of the Crisis Staff is scheduled to Thursday.

“We should be concerned, we should be concerned. The medical side of the crisis staff has been very concerned for the past ten days,” says Kon.

When asked if that concern could lead to the reintroduction of the curfew, he said “frankly, not tomorrow, but we simply cannot remain completely closed to any possibility of restrictions that may be necessary in any future perspective.”

“Whether it is a curfew or not, a state of emergency or not, I do not care as an epidemiologist. I am interested in preventing contacts”, as an example, stating that “we managed to avoid contacts in schools and we have evidence of that (there is no transmission of viruses in the schools themselves) “, and the same surveillance systems exist in cinemas and theaters.

When asked again to clarify his earlier statement that there had been three times as many deaths as reported in June, he said it was an estimate, “no one can claim that this is absolutely true. There are a number of other things that are not counted. : deaths from cardiovascular diseases and some others in which we have not seen excess mortality “.

“They estimate and serve to reveal the burden of this disease, how much more serious it is than it seems at first glance. A thorough review of mortality to be done will give the most significant results,” Kon said, explaining that the statistics mortality are a follow-up method. excess mortality compared to previous years, and that in the mentioned period it was evident that there was more mortality than in previous years.

“At no time was data concealed; I can affirm that under moral responsibility, at no time was there any hidden intention,” he says.

People over 65 can get a flu shot with written consent

When asked to comment on the complaints of many citizens over 65 that there is no flu vaccine for them in health centers, that is, that they return them to their homes with the explanation that the vaccine is intended for people of between 18 and 65 years, Kon said that “the vaccine was used from abroad and that now we only have one national that is registered and is completely safe for the age of 18 to 65 years.

“That also doesn’t mean it’s unsafe for seniors. Anyone over 65 can get vaccinated, but they must give their consent in writing. Since they are newly registered, it will take some time to ensure accessibility for all ages,” Kon said. .

When asked if it is okay for some politicians, such as President Aleksandar Vučić and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, to be seen without a mask and if they should not be an example to citizens, Kon said “in the most honest way and with full honor, we don’t see them without masks, they wear masks in front of us. “

“Well now, the question is whether the cameras are hunting them when they take off their mask or is it something else,” he says, adding that all Crisis Staff officials were asked to wear masks.

“In the crisis headquarters a mask is used, I claim under full responsibility,” says Kon.

He says that the filling of hospitals must be monitored intensively to react in a timely manner.

“The arena has been prepared, temporary hospitals must prepare quickly, so that non-Kovid hospitals do not become Kovid hospitals again,” warns Kon.
