Serbia definitely has trump cards when it comes to wine tourism, and Topola is the main leader in this area, which has a lot to offer foreign oenophiles.
Serbian Tuscany can boast of a centuries-old wine culture, because even in the days of the Karaoro waters, grapes grew in the nearby clearings, and in 1931 the first Royal winery was built, housing wines of the most popular varieties. high quality. This winery is now one of the oldest in Serbia that has survived despite difficult years.
“The royal vineyard complex used to cover 40 hectares, after World War II the land was confiscated, but at the beginning of the two thousandth it was returned and reconstruction began. Today the king’s vineyards spread over 13 hectares, four varieties of wine are produced here according to ancient recipes with the help of modern equipment, namely Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Ardone, Cabernet Sauvignon and Hamburg Nutmeg. The plan is to resurrect the Prokupac variety with which the ruica wine will be made, which can become a kind of Serbian brand, like champagne for France, ”said King Peter I manager and Dragan Relji for RINA.
The first commercial harvest was in 2007, and now the Royal Winery produces around 20,000 liters of the best white and red wines a year, which are given top marks by winemakers around the world.
The wines of the Bodega del Rey abound throughout the world, with the majority of buyers being tourists who visit the “Rey Pedro I” Foundation, thus reaching the most distant countries. Three years ago, at the Belgrade International Fair, in a contest of more than a hundred wines, international experts declared the “ardone” made in Topola de groa, which was born in the vineyards of Karaorevia, champion in the whites category .
“Other wineries produce much more, but for us quality is more important than quantity. The objective is to preserve what makes the winery of the king recognizable, and they are wines of exceptional flavor and aroma that are made with varieties of the highest quality. It is here in the winery where our wine is sold and sold, a small amount is destined for export and we hope that this amount will go to China, ”says Relji.
The recipe for these fine wines, according to the warden, is a journey of tradition and ancestral experience, with the knowledge of the experts, the love and care of the workers, but above all the wine has a special touch with the assortment of grapes , vineyards, climate and land.
