However, the works have not yet stopped, as the project manager did not allow the archaeologist to take photos and carry out tests in this regard, and they are waiting for a reaction from the Institute’s Construction Inspection.

During the preparation of the land for the construction of a residential and commercial building on Nis Boulevard, as Južne vesti writes, archaeological remains were discovered at the construction site.

The director of the Institute, Ljiljana Berić, says that after the citizens reported, they went out into the field and that their archaeologist saw the walls of a Byzantine building.

However, as they say, the construction works did not stop, Berić explains, because the archaeologist was not allowed to take photos, that is, do tests.

– The construction manager did not allow him to take photos. Based on what he saw, he wrote me a report and we submitted a report to the Building Inspection. Since we do not have the possibility to prohibit works without evidence, and we could not take photos, now the Construction Inspection is underway – says Berić.

According to Južne vesti, he awaits the reaction of the Construction Inspection today, which may ask him to go out into the field together with the archaeologists, so that the works are suspended until the archaeological investigation is carried out.
