Virologist and Crisis Staff member Tanja Jovanović stated that the price of the test and the PCR service depends on the price of the test, other consumables and the team of experts, and when all that is added, the price of 6,000 was not enough and therefore the working group requested that the price be corrected.

Tanja Jovanovic told RTS, explaining why the test went from 6,000 to 9,000 dinars and what factors affect the price, that the price of the PCR test and the service is defined based on the structure of the service itself, that in this case consists of three components.

“The first is the price of the test – it must be a commercial test, which has its price, we have an offer from several manufacturers, the highest quality are the most expensive, the average value is taken because different laboratories use different tests and that way we can cover the costs, “said Tanja Jovanovic.

He added that the second component is other consumables – pipettes, test tubes, tubes and other materials, and the third very important component is the team of experts – doctors, specialists, molecular biologist, technician, their hours and minutes of work are determined.

According to her, when all that is added, the price of 6,000 was not enough and that is why the working group asked that the price be corrected.

Commenting on the statement by epidemiologist Predrag Kon, who said that the price increase would deter people from traveling, Tanja Jovanović said that the price of some tests would certainly not prevent them from traveling.

He said that people who have symptoms and go to the kovid clinic to get tested will not pay for the PCR test.

Speaking of rapid antigen tests that can be bought in pharmacies, Tanja Jovanović says that they are very reliable and have the qualities of a good diagnostic test.

However, as he says, it is very important to do the test one to three days after the onset of symptoms, no later than five days.

It also emphasizes that it is very important to take a sample at the right time from the right place in the right way.

“We have to remove cells from the nasopharynx, from the cell, not from the secretion, it is necessary to do the test with a little more energy,” stressed Tanja Jovanović, who believes that citizens will not be able to do it alone and may be injured.

He also emphasized that it is important what citizens will do with that biological waste, whether it goes to municipal waste or just further increases the concentration of the virus in the environment.
