The most serious candidate for the throne in Cetinje is undoubtedly the current administrator of the Metropolitanate, Bishop Joanikije of Budva-Niksic (Micovic). He is considered in every way a worthy heir to the throne of San Pedro de Cetinje. The connoisseurs of the ecclesiastical circumstances, however, leave the possibility that the Council entrusts the Metropolitanate to one of the spiritual sons of Amfilohije, but also to one of the bishops with no direct connection to Montenegro.

– The metropolitan is in mourning, and for the next 40 days that will certainly not be the issue. The diocese that becomes vacant with the death of the archbishop is considered a “widow”, which is managed by the administrator, which is the current situation in our country. FIRST UNIT TASK
In the CHURCH personnel combination, the specific situation in which Montenegro finds itself is not unimportant, especially in the area of inter-ethnic relations. Thanks to the authority of Metropolitan Amfilohije, the church resisted divisions and was the spiritual home of both Serbs and nationally determined Montenegrins. The person who becomes the new metropolitan from the moment of enthronement will have the most important task: to preserve the unity of the church and the faithful, regardless of the nation.
In accordance with the rules of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the metropolitan, like all other bishops, is elected by the Assembly presided over by Patriarch Irinej. The election requires the presence of two-thirds of all archbishops: bishops, metropolitans and archbishops. In the absence of a unanimous decision, the vote will be secret and decided by an absolute majority of votes. Otherwise, it is chosen between the two that obtained more votes. Should they receive identical support in Parliament, Patriarch Irinej has the “golden vote” and the right to decide who will be the bishop.
Although it is publicly noted that no one will easily be able to fill the void left by Amfilohije, Bishop Kirilo (Bojović) of South America and Vicar Bishop Metodije (Ostojić) of Diocletian are most frequently mentioned as candidates for a possible successor to Amfilohije. They originated in Montenegro under the spiritual patronage of the metropolitan Amfilohije and are considered the successors of his work.
