Jelisaveta Vasilić, a member of the Anti-Corruption Council, stated that no report by the European Union (EU) bodies dealing with corruption was positive when it comes to Serbia.
“By contrast, all EU documents establish that Serbia is one of the most corrupt countries in Europe, with which the Council fully agrees,” Vasilic wrote in the Danas newspaper.
He added that the Council made 40 reports in eight years, in which several recommendations were given, but that the government did not implement any of them, as well as the recommendations given by the EU.
Based on that, the Council concludes that there is no fight against corruption in Serbia, Vasilic added.
“From the prosecuted cases, the council determined that minor corruption is prosecuted in our country, but not large-scale systemic corruption cases, because the politicians who create a system that allows corruption participate in them,” she says. .
According to her, the three branches of the government are participating to allow corruption.
“The legislature enacts laws that contain corrupt, vague, and incomplete provisions, the executive applies and adapts the laws to politicians, family members, friends, and all other powerful people in government and ruling parties. Vasilic also evaluated that “the state does not have an independent and autonomous Constitutional Court.”
