Jankovic: No pressure, tightening of measures according to the situation

We cannot hope to solve the spread of the virus by permanently blocking our lives completely, said immunologist and crisis staff member Srdja Jankovic at Novi Dan. There is no pressure, the medical side of crisis personnel is guided by experience and knowledge, and everyone should do everything possible to make sure they are implemented, he said.

“Of course, the law should be the same for everyone, I believe that the entire Crisis Staff is behind it, of course we do not believe that the law should be implemented selectively,” he said when asked about respect for the measures current.

“Why the measures taken are sometimes not implemented, there is the question of who is really in charge,” he added. “We are responsible for what we propose, to be the best, there is one who is in charge of the implementation, and each of the citizens is responsible for behaving in that way according to the prescribed measures,” he says.

There are no proposals from the medical side of the staff that have not been adopted, says Janković. “Whatever we do, it is necessary to implement all the measures together,” he said.

Speaking about the increase in the number of infected people in Serbia, Janković said that the implementation of measures requires energetic action at all levels, elements of the system, but also recalled that “there is no system where the measures are perfectly implemented.”

Asked about the announced opening of a shopping center in Belgrade on water, he said that the recommendation, of course, is to do nothing without strict respect for the measures, which are – distance and masks.

“The changes in the gatherings are clear, there are guidelines, I can only appeal, I hope that mistakes are not made as before, and that event, and others, must be carried out with strict respect for the measures,” he said.

He announced that the expert part of the staff will definitely present a proposal at the next meeting, which must be done.

“But what we have said so far, we emphasize that it is important to implement it to the end. After the previous meeting, the medical part of the Crisis Personnel decided to send a message that it is more important than any measure to understand that we have measures for months. . stop, “he said.

Jankovic also said that there is no next measure on paper, nor a scenario that is “woven”. “We are monitoring the situation and reacting to the situation, it is an active fight.” We can tighten the measures, but depending on the situation, not on paper. Of course, there are situations in which something squeaks, that is the case in all countries, “he added.

As he said, we have a worsening and an outbreak of the epidemic, there is great potential for the epidemic to get worse, but a lot still depends on us, we are at the beginning of the autumn wave and we have to make the virus reach smaller proportions.

“We already have some measures that are crucial for prevention, however trivial they may seem: masks, distance, restriction of meetings, if we implemented them without the rest, we would already have it to a great extent,” he said.

This does not mean, he adds, that it will not be possible to tighten the measures of some; there may be stricter working hours of the facilities, reducing the number of restrictions on people.

“Let’s not go to the abyss. And when we are far from the abyss, we have the potential to get there.” Our goal is not to scare, but to convey the message of not approaching the edge, “he says.

In Europe, the situation is becoming drastic and will last for months, he said.

“Surely next year will be lengthened, perhaps longer, we cannot hope to solve this completely by blocking life completely. Not only for economic needs, neither psychologically nor socially, we cannot endure a blockade that lasts as long as this pandemic has the potential of That is why the strategy is everywhere to measure the measures incorporated into life, so that life passes in the best possible way and to protect ourselves from infections, ”said the immunologist.

As he said, we cannot afford to stop life. “Everybody, and we are looking for the best way to allow essential life fluxes and slow down the movement of the virus,” he said.

Janković also said that it is recommended to work from home to all collectives, whenever possible, so that they organize themselves in such a way, and that for now, where there is no risk, there is no point in closing schools as a whole.

He also stated that at this time it will no longer be possible to monitor each contact, because the number of infected people has increased, but that epidemiologists have monitored each contact until now.
