Ivan Kontić, questioned by a judge, claims that he did not escape from Serbia

Kontic was placed in preventive detention in September while he was on the run, and now he has to decide whether that decision remains in force, given that the prosecutor considers that there is a risk of escape.

Kontic’s defense attorneys, however, questioned the existence of any reason for his arrest, arguing that there was no reasonable suspicion that he had committed the crime of attempted murder.

“That accusation is a dead letter on paper without a single proof. It is clear from the file that that Saturday, September 12, all participants in the procedure were raped in a clearly chaotic environment and under enormous pressure,” he said. Kontić’s lawyer, Zora Dobričanin Nikodinović.

He recalled that after his arrest in Podgorica in October, Kontić requested to be extradited to Serbia through an abbreviated procedure from Montenegro.

“He didn’t run anywhere”

Kontic’s attorney told the agency Tanjug that he went to his parents in Montenegro at a time when there was no criminal proceeding against him.

“Fifteen days after the event, Kontić stayed in Novi Sad and led a normal life, and no one was looking for him at that time. He did not flee anywhere,” Dobricaninova said.

She asked for respect for the presumption of innocence, which, as she says, has been brutally raped on many occasions by almost everyone who “obtained her name in the previous three months.”

Kontic will be brought before the Prosecutor’s Office on Friday, December 11 at 1 pm for a hearing in relation to the criminal act he is accused of, it was said. Tanjugu at the Novi Sad High Prosecutor’s Office, which is conducting an investigation against him on suspicion that he tried to kill Miljan Mandić by beating him on 24 August.

Kontic will be able to present his defense to the prosecutor, who announced after his arrest in Podgorica.

Ivan Kontić was extradited to Serbia from Montenegro on Tuesday, after being arrested on October 11 in Podgorica on a warrant from Serbia after a month of concealment. Subsequently, the Serbian Ministry of Justice sent an extradition request and agreed to be extradited.

Kontic is suspected of attempting to kill Miljan Mandic by beating him on August 24. The Novi Sad prosecution charges him with the crime of attempted murder.

Miljan Mandic was previously interrogated as a victim in the prosecution.

Two more suspects

Along with Kontić, the suspects in this case are OL and myself. V, who is a suspect of the crimes of participation in a fight, that is, assistance to the perpetrator after the commission of the crime.

They were detained for a month and, in mid-October, they were released to defend themselves.

Novi Sad police previously announced that Kontić was suspected of inflicting several blows on the 28-year-old man to the head and body, as a result of which he lost consciousness and then broke “both forearms”.

The case attracted much public attention after a video was posted on social media on September 11, showing the young man being beaten.

Kontić is originally from Nikšić, graduated from Serbian Law School and worked as an apprentice in the law office before the incident where he beat Mandić (28) on Jevrejska street in Novi Sad on August 24.
