It’s unrealistic to celebrate the new year like nothing’s wrong

Epidemiologist Predrag Kon, a member of the crisis staff for the fight against the corona virus, said this morning on RTS that it is unrealistic to celebrate the New Year as if nothing was happening. He adds that the effects in terms of the number of hospital admissions will be felt in ten days.

“The number of new infected began to decrease”

Kon said there are still more hospital admissions than discharges. He points out that now that number is higher at about 200, and that it used to be 300, and as he says, in ten days it will equalize.

– The number of newly infected people has started to decrease compared to about 10 days ago. The consequences of that in terms of admission will come in about 10 days. We have more admissions than layoffs. Now 200 is accepted, and there were 300, and in about ten days that number will be equalized. It is not yet time to rejoice, hospitals are still in a very difficult situation – he said.

“At the borders Either they have a test or not”

When it comes to new measures when entering Serbia, Kon said foreign nationals will need a p-si-ar test, and Serbian citizens are recommended to take it, otherwise they will have to be isolated for ten days. When asked how the borders will be controlled, he explained:

– At the borders, I don’t see it as a big problem. Either they have proof or they don’t. In order for a foreigner to enter, they must have a negative PCR test. Our people are also advised to isolate themselves if they don’t. They can end that quarantine by doing a test in a period of three days. If they come with a test they have no obligations.

About the new year and the curfew

Speaking about the measures for the New Year and Christmas, Predrag Kon said that there is still no decision on this. When asked how realistic it is to introduce curfew, Kon said he can’t answer that, but he can say that it’s unrealistic for the New Year to be celebrated as if nothing is happening.

– I can say that it is unrealistic for the New Year to be celebrated as nothing.

He said he once said that something like the Spanish fever would never happen again, as if he still thought about it.

– See how quickly vaccines are given, there are also antibiotics that prevent bacterial infections. This is a trifle compared to the Spanish flu that took 50 million people. It also says that it is 100 million. We are far from it here. The vaccine is definitely a turning point. You see what surveillance is like, it wasn’t like that. Although the news got around, it wasn’t during the Spanish fever – Dr. Conn said.

Who will be vaccinated first

Regarding the priorities for vaccination, he points out that there is a National Immunization Committee that will make a list together with Trampoline.

He says that it is important to understand that not all vaccines will come at once, but in “drops”, so that the number of doses will increase slowly.

Kon points out that it is necessary for those who are in contact with the virus to receive the first doses, and they are health workers and employees of social institutions. After that, there are those most at risk, but also members of the army and the police.

He said he couldn’t say how long the vaccine would be needed and that it should be officially announced.

Predrag Kon states that the Agency for Medicines and Health Products represents the government of this country in this regard and that they must approve the use of the vaccine.

He adds that no vaccine has its advantage, that is, the only advantage may be the one that arrives first and receives registration and approval.

Kon also said he couldn’t say the start date for the vaccination, but noted that it certainly won’t be long before the vaccines arrive.
