A student at the Eighth Gymnasium in Belgrade, Minja D. (15), who was rescued by brave children from a nearby construction site on October 27 from a burning apartment in Dorcol, passed away yesterday, almost a month after the accident.

After the last of three skin transplants from six volunteer donors, Mina’s condition worsened a few days ago and doctors from the Burn, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Clinic rushed her to Tirsovo. However, he succumbed to injuries due to weakening of immunity, due to which a large part of his body was burned.

Ognjen Todorović (38), one of the two skin donors, said that a part of him went with her.

– She didn’t last … And I’m lying here all wounded and I can’t believe what happened, part of us, me and Nenad Stanković (18), who also donated skin, went with her. It was as if my beloved had died. It’s as if my sister was born – said Todorović.

A terrible fire broke out in Dorcol on October 27, when the teenager was alone in an apartment on the 10th floor of the building, which she rented with her mother, aunt and grandfather, while her mother was in a nearby store.

The fire, as the first investigation showed, spread from the celebratory candle and soon engulfed the entire apartment. The teenager was in the bathroom while the fire was spreading, and when she felt the smoke and came out, she had nowhere to go from the fire, so she ran to the terrace.

She called out for help, and when firefighters and police arrived at the scene, five workers from a nearby construction site heard her screams and rushed to help her. First they tried to break down the door of the apartment and try to get to it, but failing they went down to the terrace of the apartment below, tied themselves with a rope and after 15 minutes of horrible drama, the teenager managed to jump from the terrace into the arms by Pavle Gavura.
