“IT WORKED IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS” Dr. Kon on the virus among students, the state of emergency and the tightening of measures

The epidemiologist and member of the Crisis Staff for the fight against the coronavirus, Dr. Predrag Kon, said today that there has been no discussion about the state of emergency since May, when it was lifted.

– I don’t know how the state of emergency came to be. I mentioned it in the sense of explaining that monitoring is impossible, that only solutions are written and that more control is needed, but that this is possible only in a state of emergency and that it is inappropriate in this situation – emphasized Dr. Kon on the Pink TV morning show.

When it comes to tightening the existing measures, he pointed out that it depends exclusively on the epidemiological situation and that it is not appropriate “to tighten them in a relatively acceptable situation.”

He also referred to the epidemiological situation in the region and the “surveillance system” that applies to all our returning tourists.

“Burning around us and the virus knows no limits”

– Burns around us, and the virus knows no borders, there is no dilemma. The monitoring system has been introduced, we expect a lot from it and it will show the first results. Of the 700 who cross the border, one is a suspect and needs to be examined. So we have a very good filter to detect these cases and isolate and treat them immediately. This is good for them, so that they are under control as soon as possible, and for others, so that the virus does not spread, said epidemiologist Dr. Kon.

Applications are also starting in high schools

He added that “it worked in high schools.”

– Another great risk works in terms of preventing transmission, these are the measures in schools. Also sold out in high schools, applications are ongoing. These are individual applications, which is very important. It is not a problem of 10, 15 infected in a short time, but then it is too late – he explained.

As of Friday, 23,000 of our citizens have been under surveillance, 36 of them are considered suspects, and as Dr. Kon explains, that’s not a small number.

– If we think that 36 is small, then we do not think epidemiologically, they are huge numbers. If 1 in 1,000 is infected, then we consider it an epidemiological emergency situation, and in this situation we have 1 in 700, far from being small – he pointed out.

Dr. Cohn said that although we will not prevent the entry and rise of the virus, we can stop it.

We can slow down the virus

– We can slow it down a lot and avoid a sharp increase and make sure the system works, but not that we are in a situation like July. I hope we can prevent this with these measures. If a miracle happened, everyone would take action and that slowdown would be very successful. The celebrations will begin in November and there will be a greater frequency of internal contacts – said Dr. Kon.

He also noted that last year there were around 12,000 acute respiratory infections in this period, and that there are now around 6,400, which speaks volumes about the importance of masks in fighting the virus.

– We do not see events that would drastically change the situation, now there is an influx, it will be in October when the celebrations begin, but much less. Just before the New Year and Christmas, Catholics and Orthodox expect a higher number, as for Easter when we had 4,000 imports – he said.
