On behalf of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Shovljanski called on all believers to wear masks, not to stay and not to form crowds.

The body of the patriarch will be brought to the Cathedral tomorrow around 8.30 and will be exhibited during the liturgy to mark the glory of the church. Then, a short memorial service is planned, and then the body must be transferred to the Temple of Saint Sava.

Believers will not be able to say goodbye to the patriarch in the Cathedral, but in the Temple of Saint Sava, according to special rules. According to RTS, believers, despite the cold weather, occasionally come to the Cathedral and light candles to pay their respects to Patriarch Irinej.

Priest Dragan Shovljanski also explained how Patriarch Irinej’s farewell will be organized on Saturday and Sunday.

“On Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in front of the Cathedral of Belgrade a column with the remains of the blessed patriarch will appear, which will be received in front of the Temple by members of the Serbian Army, and in the church by the clergy of the Archbishopric of Belgrade and Karlovac” Shovljanski said.

He said that then, at 12:30, the memorial service at the St. Sava temple would begin, and that after that, the Holy Gospel would be read over his body all day and night.

On Sunday, the day of the funeral, the Holy Liturgy begins at 9 am.

Today, the Government of Serbia has taken the decision to declare three days of mourning in Serbia on the occasion of the death of Patriarch Irinej.
