The architect Vojislav Dević began investigating a few years ago to find a tunnel under the Petrovaradin Fortress, which, according to his claims, connected both sides of the Danube. The desire for such endeavor appeared at a young age, when her cousin Drenka Bogojevac told her that the last time a married couple went there was in 1913.

– We determined one, two and a half years ago that under the bottom of the Danube, between eight and nine meters, there is a rectilinear construction, the supposed legend that everyone talks about, and no one has ever lifted a finger to prove or disprove it – He says. Vojislav Devic.

The architect Devic believes that at the end of the First World War, the last Austro-Hungarian general was ordered to block all the entrances and exits of the tunnel before the Serbian army entered the building. One of the entrances was located a few meters from the Monument to the Victims of the Raid, and the other in the crypt below the Church of St. George.

– The file does not say anything because we only know that there were only two plans that spoke of that tunnel. One is in the Vienna archives and cannot be found. There were several plans of parts of the fortress that were distributed to various commanders who were defending their sector, and the commander-in-chief of the fortress was the one with that other map on which everything was written. That second map disappeared when the Titanic sank when he went to an exhibition in New York, Devic confirmed for RTV.

Based on the Danube sonar research, a 3D model of the tunnel is currently being made, which could be a key proof of its existence, and after its reconstruction, a major tourist attraction would be created.
