Spouses Ivana (41) and Božidar (55) Dimitrijević from Inđija were killed in a fire at the family house at 107 Sava Kovačevića street in Inđija while they were hugging and lying on a double bed. Their bodies were found by firefighters, around six in the morning, while putting out the fire. The first results of the investigation indicate that they suffocated in the smoke, while the police verify if they committed suicide, because they recently lost the roof over their head in a family dispute!

– We heard they were most likely asphyxiated with smoke. The firefighters reacted quickly, but unfortunately there was no rescue. They were found embracing in the bedroom as they put out the fire. Two nights before the accident, Božidar ran into the street in a panic and asked for help. A neighbor ran up to them and found Ivana crying, but he didn’t tell her why she was crying. He sat with them for a while and left – a story for “Hello!” From the couple’s neighbor.

The neighbor of the murdered couple, Jovanka Bilaus, told us that the couple loved each other very much and that Božidar cared for Ivana.

– They had no children, but Božidar adored Ivana. She was blind, saw only 10 percent and worked in a company, in a telephone exchange. Her husband’s eyes were hers too! He was not separated from her, he was provided with transportation from home to work, because he took care of it. They were positive despite the difficulties they had. Bozidar was a doorman, he lost his job, but he was always in the mood. He always had chocolate bananas with him, which he shared with the children. I saw him for the last time yesterday, he was carrying water, he waved to me and smiled, and now he’s gone – Jovanka told us sadly.

Another neighbor claims that Božidar recently complained to his brother, who has a house in the same courtyard.

– He sued his brother for something, so he lost the dispute and was left without a roof over his head. He said “it’s over and you have to move.” He asked me if I knew of a house and told me that my brother was planning to tear down the roof over his head – a neighbor on the street claims and adds that no one knows how the fire broke out.

– I heard that Božidar started a fire on the “Smederevo” stove in the kitchen, but it was not clear to me why, because they were heating and cooking on gas. Ivana knew how to prepare everything, but Božidar bragged that they bought ready-made meals, so she wasn’t clear about anything. God forgive me, everything comes to mind … It is possible that Božidar simply gave up and killed himself according to Ivan. I hope it will be determined how they were killed, a neighbor told us at the end of the conversation.

There was a fire in the kitchen.

Police from the Emergency Situations Sector are determining the exact cause of the tragedy. It is unofficially known that the fire broke out in the kitchen and quickly spread to the rest of the house and the bedroom. The bodies were sent for autopsy to Novi Sad.
