So far, four witnesses have been examined in the Nis High Prosecutor’s Office as part of the investigation against Milan Stevanović (47), director of the Gerontology Center in Niš. He was arrested on April 13 on suspicion that, as an authorized person of this institution, he did not take all necessary measures and actions to prevent the spread of the infectious disease Covid 19, as a result of which a large number of users of that home got infected.

According to the latest publicly announced data dating back to the beginning of May, 43 users of the Nis Gerontology Center died, while 165 users and 30 employees were infected with the coronavirus. However, given that in recent days it has not been emphasized whether there are users of the house in Nis among those killed by the corona virus, it is very possible that the aforementioned figure is not the final black balance of this tragedy.

As confirmed to “Blic” at the VJT in Nis, the four witnesses heard so far are the president and three members of the Board of Directors of the Nis Gerontology Center, who testified about the circumstances of the March 27 session.

As our document wrote earlier, this session is suspected to have taken place at the Gerontology Center in Nis, although the decision by the Ministry of Labor imposed a strict ban on visiting nursing homes on March 12.

The prosecution indicates that the examination of other witnesses will continue when the conditions of a “health nature” are met.

– The criminal proceeding against M. S., director of the Gerontology Center in Nis, is currently under investigation. Evidence measures are currently being taken to collect evidence and data. The dynamics of the examination of witnesses is conditioned by the fact that the staff of the Gerontology Center has been isolated and quarantined since the beginning of the investigation, given their permanence in the environment where the presence of the Covid 19 virus was determined – they say ” Blic “in the Superior Prosecutor’s Office.

The VJT adds that the investigation has not been formally extended to other people, that is, that no order has been issued to expand the investigation when writing responses to questions posed by “Blic.”

At this time, the VJT was unable to say exactly how many Gerontology Center users have died so far.

– The Clinical Center in Nis has not yet informed the prosecutor’s office about the final number of deceased users: “Blic” was said to be in VJT Nis.

As “Blic” wrote, Stevanović was detained for up to 30 days on suspicion of having committed “a serious act against human health, in connection with the crime of transmission of a contagious disease”, for which a maximum sentence of up to 12 years in prison. .
