– The durability of the system is at its limits. There will still be hospital fillings, regardless of whether the situation in Belgrade has stabilized, Dr. Predrag Kon noted today.
He told a guest on TV Prva that we will see the effects of the measures this week.
– There is already a slight decrease in Belgrade, but the pressure on hospitals remains great, especially in the capital. A large number of belgraders are still being treated outside their city – Dr. Kon said adding “that we will already have 1,200 to 1,400 for Belgrade today, and during this week between 1,400 and 1,800, as opposed to before when there were between 1,800 at 2,200 “.
Hospitalization is still very high
At a high level, the number of newly infected has also stabilized in Novi Sad, he added.
– Now the most important thing is that hospitalization is still very high and that is the biggest problem – said Dr. Kon, adding that “the resistance of the health system is at its limits and that there is nothing it can bear without limits” .
Regarding the presenter’s statement that Saint Nicholas will soon be celebrated, and then the New Year and Christmas holidays, Dr. Kon said that “the most important thing is the arrival of our people from abroad.”
“They will have to quarantine and isolate”
– Preparations must be made there, we will have to have quarantines and isolations, that will be discussed at the next meeting – he said.
Asked whether a PCR test would be mandatory for them, he said the profession “fully suggested what would be done” and emphasized that “closing the borders is impossible.”
– We have proposed what should be done, the medical part of the crisis headquarters. There is no alternative, the alternative is the entry of large numbers of people who do not know they are infected, will develop the disease and seek hospitalization in Serbia, Serbia cannot be expected to put up with it. Closing the border is impossible, if the state brings it, we will not care. It is clear that it has not yet been discussed – said Dr. Kon.
Regarding New Year’s Eve and the fact that many citizens have already booked the celebration, Dr. Kon said that “what they are doing is unrealistic.”
Serbia at its peak
– We are at the top now, it is the top of the wave. Belgrade was at that peak in the previous two weeks, where guilt was at a high level. It will fall very slowly, we do not have dramatic restrictive measures, we will see how fast it will fall. The rest of Serbia, some places have a higher presence of the virus per capita, it will be different with them. It’s a spill-over phenomenon, where it starts first, first and starts to fall, Dr. Kon said.
“If we cannot understand, the state should close everything”
On possible new measures and closures on pranik days, Dr. Kon says:
– The measures are in force. I can only say my opinion: if we are not able to understand this situation, then the State simply has to accept it and close everything. Since it is broadcast for Arandjelovdan, for November 21, according to the information I have, it was celebrated in the closest family circle and it is widely accepted that there are no big celebrations – said Dr. Kon adding that “it is normal to have exceptions. “
Earlier today, the director of the KCS Infectious Diseases Clinic, Dr. Goran Stevanović, appealed to citizens not to treat themselves at home.
– All patients who do not need oxygen support should be placed in institutions where there is no central oxygen supply. The number of examinations in triage centers is not decreasing, and it is worrying that lately we have more and more patients with a severe clinical picture who treat themselves – Stevanović pointed out, adding that at this time the only thing that can help us is respect of the measures.
– We will get out of all this, the only thing that is smarter is to wear masks, keep your distance, use disinfection. The most important thing is the mask and nothing else is more important. All this that is being done in terms of organizing additional capacities, making hospitals, is something that will historically remain in writing. The essence is that capabilities are emerging, we are about to accept the pressure on the doctors and the commitment of the staff. The situation and the heroism of health workers will not be forgotten, it will be noticed and there will be those who will write about it – concluded Dr. Kon.
Let us remind you, in the last 24 hours in Serbia, 14,486 people were tested for the corona virus, 5,809 of them tested positive, while sadly 58 people died.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and the “Trampoline” Institute, there are 278 patients on respirators in hospitals throughout Serbia.
