Belgrade petition shows that LGBT people have the same rights as other citizens of Serbia
Just over 4,000 people signed the petition for the adoption of the law on registered partners in Serbia in just three days.

Belgrade Pride calls on citizens to support the petition for the community of same-sex couples to be recognized and recognized by law, to enforce regulations on property division if that community ceases to exist, and for a same-sex partner inherits his partner under the same conditions as spouse.
In addition, the LGBT + community requires that a same-sex couple have the right to inherit a pension in the event of the death of the couple, that same-sex couples enjoy the right to protection against domestic violence, that in case of illness of one of the couples the other has the right to be informed. about her illness, the course of treatment and other facts related to her state of health, that same-sex couples can visit each other in prison, as well as that the same-sex couple has the right to take their partner’s body and bury it . .
Goran Miletić from the Belgrade Pride Organizing Committee explains to Danas that civil society organizations have been demanding the passage of the law on registered unions for years.
– We believe that after 15 years of waiting, it is time for the adoption of this law, as it has been an international obligation of Serbia since 2015. In the first 12 hours, the petition was signed by more than 2,000 citizens, which shows that the support is not as small as is often thought. The messages that citizens leave with the signed petition show understanding for the problems we face because this law does not exist. Citizens understand the practical issues related to inheritance, property, healthcare, hospital visits and the like, Miletic notes.
According to him, it is completely clear that the law depends on the president of Serbia, “since now there will be no government that depends on the will of various parties.”
– However, the position of the president and the Serbian Progressive Party on this issue is more than confusing. Given that in the agreement signed in Washington, Serbia promised to demand the decriminalization of homosexuality in countries that persecute the LGBT community, it is logical that the law in Serbia will finally recognize the same-sex community – says Goran Miletic.
It is estimated that around ten percent of the members of each country, including Serbia, belong to the LGBT + community.
The bill was drafted in 2010
“The bill on registered unions between people of the same sex was prepared in 2010 by various civil society organizations and presented to the competent authorities for their consideration and approval. This bill does not foresee the possibility of people of the same sex to marry , since marriage between members of the same sex is prohibited by the Constitution. This law stipulates that registered partners enjoy all the rights determined by the pension, health and social insurance law, as well as partners in the marital union and / or extramarital, ”says the Pride of Belgrade.
