The “Gallery Belgrade” shopping center was opened in the “Belgrade on Water” settlement. Construction of the 300,000 square meter facility started in 2017 and the investor is the company “Eagle Hills” from the United Arab Emirates.
With the symbolic press of a button amid the spread of the coronavirus and under the slogan “The economy cannot stop”, the Serbian state leadership opened a shopping center in Belgrade on the water.
“It will be filled mainly in March and April, when the crown runs out and if the vaccine arrives. These larger companies cannot reach half the crown,” said Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
Those smaller brands have queued at discounts, and people are already coming to see what the “Gallery” looks like.
N1: You line up and you’re crowded, aren’t you afraid of the crown?
“Not really, and we’re remote, I don’t think it’s going to be a problem.”
N1: Will you stay since the line is too long?
“I don’t think it’s more than an hour.”
N1: And there is no fear of getting infected?
“Here you see that I keep my distance”
And some other visitors said:
“I come from Slavija, I arrive early, I want to see what it is and what it is like, and maybe there will be some reward.”
“You have the impression that you are in the open air, the one on top is plexiglass, nice and new for sure.”
“It is still unfinished, we will see when it starts working at full speed.”
Most of the bars are covered with photo wallpaper and under a padlock. The president of Serbia says his dream comes true despite everything.
“When you have dreams, then you don’t share them with many people, almost everyone was against it, almost everyone,” he said.
Vučić often visits the “Bograd na vodi” construction site, but every day, as he says, he controls the “Belgrade” tower.
“I go out to the terrace of the Presidency every day and check how much it has grown and what is new,” said Vucic.
According to the president’s announcements, the “Belgrade” tower was supposed to be finished by the end of 2019, and as announced today, when all the bars are open, five thousand people will work in the “Belgrade” Gallery.
