Of 32 children under the age of 10 who, according to data from the Nis Health Center, were confirmed to have covid, two were hospitalized and none of them had a more serious clinical picture.
Epidemiologist and crisis staff member Branislav Tiodorović added that children of that age rarely get sick and are not carriers, and that exceptions are very rare.
According to him, of the total number of covid-positive children under the age of 10, up to 31 contracted the virus from their relatives and there were no serious symptoms.
– From November 23 to December 3, a total of 20 children were hospitalized in the Kovid pediatric center of the Clinical Center, two of them under 10 years old, and none of them are from Nis. Nor was there any serious illness – says Tiodorović.
He says this supports the fact that it has been confirmed in the world scientific literature that children of that age rarely get sick and are not carriers.
– However, there are always very rare exceptions, especially if they have hereditary predispositions or diseases already acquired at such an early stage of life – adds the epidemiologist.
According to data from the Health Center, 331 children were examined at the kovid pediatric clinic in just over a week, and it turned out that 68 of them tested positive for corona, of which 32 were under 10 years old.
As one of the medical reasons why younger elementary school students did not switch to online classes, epidemiologist and crisis staff member Branislav Tiodorović claimed that children under the age of 10 do not have enough receptors that are necessary for the virus to bind to the cell.
He says he expresses gratitude and admiration to educators for their work in education, which is “one of the most important pillars of a society that wants to fight for prosperity.”
