Plastic, paper and shopping bags and their use are the subject of a proposed decision to the Panevo City Assembly.

Under the proposal, retailers are required to limit the use of very light plastic bags and gradually reduce the use of lightweight plastic bags. At the same time, they are obliged to make paper bags and reusable bags available to consumers at the point of sale as a replacement for plastic bags, reports 013info.

Merchants will be controlled by the Communal Inspectorate and fines of 10,000 to 60,000 dinars have been imposed for merchants who do not comply with this decision.

According to the Program of this action, the use of plastic bags that are not biodegradable will be limited until December 31 of this year, and from that date the use of paper bags and reusable bags will be excluded.
