Academician Aleksandar Ivic, a famous Serbian mathematician and honorary professor at the University of Belgrade, passed away on Sunday, December 27 after a long illness, SANU announced today, emphasizing that “his departure is a great loss for the Academy, all Serbian science. and worldwide “.

Professor Ivić will be buried the day after tomorrow in the family grave in the New Belgrade Cemetery, where his maternal great-grandfather, the poet Vojislav J. Ilić, also rests.

He was born in Belgrade on March 6, 1949, in the family of the famous linguists and scholars Milka and Pavle Ivić.

He finished primary school, secondary school and mathematics studies at the University of Novi Sad, and at the UB he obtained the title of teacher and doctor of mathematics.

After the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Novi Sad, he worked at the Faculty of Mining and Geology in Belgrade in the Department of Applied Mathematics, where he went through all university degrees.

He was elected Senior Lecturer in 1988 when he became a corresponding member of SANU.

Six years ago, he acquired the title of professor emeritus and full member of the Academy.

He was a member of the SANU Mathematical Institute and a member of the editorial board of several international journals.

As a visiting professor, he has taught at universities in Japan, China, Brazil, Finland F

His narrow mathematical specialty was analytical number theory, and his work in this field is of global importance.

His monographs on the famous Riemann function and the Riemann hypothesis, which are still relevant in today’s mathematical world, as well as on Hardy’s theory of the Z function, have been published by the world’s leading publishers of scientific publications.

Academician Ivić has published more than 280 scientific articles in the world’s most famous magazines, with citations several thousand times.

He has written reviews for international magazines and articles for world-renowned reference magazines. He was married to the psychiatrist and politician Sanda Raskovic Ivic.
