A student at the Eighth Gymnasium in Belgrade, Minja D. (15), who was rescued from a burning apartment in Dorcol on October 27 by brave boys from a nearby construction site, passed away yesterday, almost a month after the accident.

After the last of three skin transplants from six volunteer donors, Mina’s condition worsened a few days ago and doctors from the Burn, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Clinic rushed her to Tirsovo. However, he succumbed to injuries due to weakened immunity due to a large part of his body being burned.

– Doctors literally did everything they could to improve Mina’s condition, but she was so weak that she couldn’t bear it, one of Tirsova’s nurses told the Serbian Telegraph.

Mina’s mother knew that transplant operations were difficult and high-risk, but she believed her daughter would win it all. Despite the support of Minja’s friends, father, sister, and numerous friends, the unhappy woman who lost her only daughter is inconsolable and takes medication all the time.

Ognjen Todorović (38), one of the two skin donors, told Belgrade media that a part of him went with her.

– She didn’t last … And I’m lying here all wounded and I can’t believe what happened, part of us, me and Nenad Stanković (18), who also donated skin, went with her. It was as if my beloved had died. It’s as if my sister was born – said Todorović.

– I didn’t believe that what I heard was true because it’s scary that the brave Minja won’t put up with it. We hoped that she would recover and that everything would be fine, and then yesterday her mother saddened me when she told me that Minja’s condition had worsened – Gavura said.
