The director of the office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Serbia, Marijan Ivanuša, said today that the current situation regarding the corona virus in Serbia can be called the third wave, that is, the third worsening of the epidemic. .
Ivanusa says that if 95% of citizens wore masks, the state would never be in a position to “stop life”, expressing fear that Serbia is relatively close to closure due to the worsening epidemiological situation, but that the day has not yet has arrived.
– The situation has steadily deteriorated in recent weeks, and if that continues, I am afraid that Serbia will reach a point where life stops. The closure would have serious economic consequences and we know that they affect people’s health. That is why the WHO believes that this should be the last resort – said Ivanuša.
He estimated that the new corona virus vaccine is “in front of the door”, but that at first it will not be enough for everyone.
Ivanusa said that more than 60 percent of the world’s population should be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity.
– The first vaccines will probably be available in December, but there won’t be a billion or three billion of them, but several million. Some will already get it then, but to achieve herd immunity, it will take a long time, Ivanuša told “H1”.
