Epidemiologist Predrag Kon expects fewer new cases in Belgrade next week, but that will not be uniform across the country because the virus has spread differently.
– The situation will be difficult for the holidays because the pressure on the hospitals will continue to be great. The measures will be in force as long as necessary, I personally think they could be stricter – said Kon for RTS.
According to him, everything possible should be done to dissuade our foreign citizens from coming to the country, because if the same number arrives as at Easter, we will not be able to bear it.
– The health system did not break, but it is overloaded and the situation is extremely difficult – said Kon.
There’s been a lot of talk lately about the fact that a negative PCR test is no longer needed after two weeks, and Cohn said they don’t understand why it’s in the limelight now, because it’s been for months and by recommendation. of the World Health Organization.
– On June 26, the WHO clearly said that after 14 days, if there are no problems for three days, there is no so-called viable and communicable virus. We, again, wait until August and September, and then we start applying it. It is very interesting how it has now become the center of public attention. It is important that patients are discharged quickly at this time, so this was also introduced when they are discharged from hospitals. We treat the patient, not the test, that is the essence. And if something is prohibited or changed, it is nothing at all – he said.
Serbia is in the “peak” of the third wave, the measures should be more strict. What do the latest numbers tell us, how far are we from the “peak” of this wave?
– We are somewhere, but we can say that it seems that now is a turning point, additional capabilities are appearing and we have new measures, on the other hand, this will take a long time. The number will start to drop soon, it is expected over the next week. It already happened in Belgrade, there has been no increase in the last two weeks, and it will fall during the next week. It will not be the same throughout Serbia, because it is still burning in the rest of the country. You have a situation where Belgrade had 54% new patients, and now it’s 25%, so it overflowed, he said.
How long will the new measures last?
– A deadline has been set for the 15th, honestly, it is unlikely to give such good results as not to have to apply it more. Personally, very personally, I think they should be more acute – he said.
