If consumers do not deliver electricity meters to EPS, they are obliged to maintain them.

The president of the National Association of Consumers of Serbia (NAPS), Goran Papovic, said today that electricity consumers should be equally aware of their rights and obligations in case they hand over electricity meters and the accompanying facility to EPS Distribution or keep them on their property, when they are obliged to maintain their technical correctness. .

Regarding the dilemmas in the public as to why EPS Distribución offers to take over the electricity meters and the accompanying installation, he said that consumers should know that the technical correction of electricity meters is limited in time.

“Electricity meters must be calibrated, because their technical correctness is limited to a period of eight to 12 years. After that, consumers who decide to keep these metering devices on their property must be calibrated and must be aware of that obligation.” Papović said.

The operator of the distribution system EPS Distribucija announced a few days ago that, in accordance with the Energy Law, it will take over the metering devices, metering and distribution cabinets, connection lines, facilities and equipment in the metering and distribution cabinets. of all users of the system, without additional costs. In the initial phase, they took over 650,000 measuring devices on the territory of the whole of Serbia.

EPS Distribución thus assumes, as announced, the obligation to maintain the acquired equipment and will assume future maintenance costs, and the reception conditions will be regulated by contract.

Papović said that EPS Distribucija, when it started to replace old electricity meters, should have submitted a certificate of correction so that consumers knew it was technically correct.

He said that if the consumer doubts the technical correctness of the electricity meter, he should contact the Institute of Precious Metals and Measurements to determine whether it is correct.

He recalled that in the villages of Serbia, electricity meters have not been controlled for 20 years and that consumers react mainly when they suspect that consumption is higher than the real one, but not when it is lower.

Energy experts told Beta that EPS Distribution, as in the world, wants to control the metering device so that electricity is not consumed illegally.

In the event that the consumer does not want to deliver the electricity meters, EPS Distribution, according to them, can remove the metering point from the owner’s possession so that the owner can control the correctness of the meter and consumption, and the owner has the obligation to keep the meter in technical condition.

EPS Distribucija, by the way, already charges for the maintenance of the network and the metering devices, which can be seen in the bill for the electricity consumed under the heading “costs of transmission and distribution of energy to the customer”.

These costs, in most cases, as they said, represent about 40 percent of the debt on the electricity bill consumed.

With the transfer of electricity meters, consumers, as experts assure, will not have any obstacle in case they want to change electricity supplier, EPS Distribucija will continue to keep its measurement points and accompanying facilities in a technically correct state.
