I REJECT ALLEGATIONS ABOUT “HISTORICAL FORGERY”: Ambassador Bozovic describes the details of an awkward conversation in the Montenegrin ministry

Bozovic notes that he is surprised by this attitude of Montenegro because he did not act differently than the Serbian ambassadors before him did in this country on such occasions.

– With amazement and concern I received the fact that last night I was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, where they told me that my intention qualifies as interference in internal affairs and issues of state sovereignty and some historical falsifications. The Republic of Serbia and I, as ambassador, completely reject it. We consider that the mention of the term “historical falsification” is especially indisputable. The conversation at the ministry was very unpleasant for me – explains Božović.

He recalled that the sign in Budva was put up in 1931 during the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, after a difficult construction project, when the Cetinje-Budva highway was built. That board was placed by the Budva City Council, Božović adds, and was solemnly consecrated in honor and honor of all heroes, Montenegrin and Serb alike. In that sense, the historical facts are more than clear.

– Denying the armistice day, victory and alliance of Serbia and Montenegro, that in the great war through the Battle of Mojkovac were clearly, unquestionably and historically together in that victory, and questioning that, is a very unpleasant surprise to me. I am in consultation with the state leaders of Serbia and of course, due to this attitude of the host country, we could only give up and postpone the placement of the wreath on the commemorative plaque, hoping for better future times – notes Bozovic.

The culture of remembrance, homage and respect for the heroes who fell in love with freedom and our present values is the greatest act of civilization, says the ambassador.

– I would also say before the Montenegrin, Serbian and European public – the Republic of Serbia testifies to its firm desire and determination to build the best possible fraternal and friendly relations with Montenegro. With its policy of peace and understanding, Serbia wants to send a message of peace and reconciliation on this day, the Day of Reconciliation, both between nations and between states. Let us once again bear witness to the dignity of this day by delivering mail and honor to all those who undoubtedly deserve it. Reminding them all, we must also think ahead. As two modern democratic European states, which are closer to each other, we should cooperate economically, economically, culturally and politically, in the interests of Serbia and Montenegro, says Bozovic.

He says he hopes that the three new winning coalitions in Montenegro will soon form a new government and that the new government will try to develop the best relations with both Serbia and neighboring countries.

– What I can promise is that both our embassy and I personally will have a constructive partner to improve our relations and give a new tone that, I hope, is different, friendlier and well-intentioned than it is now. I do not want to condemn anyone at all, I just want to ask for respect for historical facts, for reason, for peace, for unity and that we return to solving the problems of citizenship, as is expected of us. And to return to what we have in common on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration – said the Serbian ambassador to Montenegro.

When it comes to the issue of the culture of remembrance and mail delivery, I would say that it is also a non-European, that is, global and civilizational scope, to which we must contribute together in the future, says Božović.

– Historically we have never been opposed, our states and armies have never been at war with each other or in any conflict. So I think you just need to look at the historical facts wisely and take a certain position around it. What I received today from a large number of Serbian organizations is the support and request to participate in the organization of a wider scientific historical meeting where the historians of Montenegro, Serbia and the region, under the auspices of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Montenegro, would shed light on these historical facts once again. so as not to lead to malicious interpretations – added Bozovic.

Bozovic admits that the latest unpleasant case affected him even more because he was born in Montenegro and lives that country as closely as possible:

– I would never do anything to the detriment and against the interests of Montenegro, because then I would work to the detriment of Serbia.
