Actress Jelena Stupljanin lived in New York for a time and, upon her return, a host of projects followed, but she also said a fateful “yes” to her colleague Bojan Dimitrijević.
How uncomfortable is the burden of beating the biological clock and the fear that a woman can achieve it all at a certain age?
– Well, it certainly is. It is imposed by the society in which we grew up, which shapes us. And that society is made up of both men and women. In Serbia, there are expectations, fears of what will happen or if some images of a complete life will come true, of what we think it should be. I mean, what they told us it should be. Looking at younger girls growing up, I think they are bravely dealing with male-female relationships. We need to find the key for ourselves, and then for others, to have more compassion, empathy, understanding, and patience.
Is love the engine of your life?
– A great. For each person, it is the main strength in terms of the relationship they have with someone or something. Love is definitely important.
It is important for actors that their careers continue continuously. You’ve worked a lot in recent years, but it seems that you don’t get too involved with roles, that you don’t accept them at all costs, and that you choose them carefully?
– So is. I try my best to choose a role before she chooses me. This summer, I am thankful to God that I had the opportunity to do things I believed in. Among other things, in “Truckers”, of which I am very proud. Also, I am proud that the directors have given me confidence, and I understood it with great responsibility and tried to use it in the best possible way. This year has been terribly difficult in everything. I see all of this as a kind of blessing that I have received.
You lived in New York. Do you regret having returned?
– I’m glad I’m where I am. I’m happy about that.
How was the period you spent in that city?
– I went to New York alone when I was 25 years old. I still believe that this is the right time to go to such a city: youth, ambitions, research, etc. And in that sense, I’m happy I did. I lived that part of myself. And that city. Somehow, in the right way, I came to understand that the time had come to sail to a quieter port, which I did when I returned here.
When you came back, everything went well. You started to work a lot, but you also found the love of your life and married your colleague Bojan Dimitrijević.
– In principle, we avoid talking about a private relationship. We do not want to privately interfere in business.
