I got a fever, I remember I was cold and then the movie stopped. The next thing I remember is that I woke up with a respirator.

This is what Sasa Ristic (35) from Draskovac near Leskovac says for “Blic”, whose doctors at the Nis Clinical Center managed to save his life after 33 days in intensive care and 12 on a ventilator. Sasha lost more than 20 kilograms during hospital treatment, he is so weak that he can barely speak and is tired of talking for a few minutes.

– I received a crown from my wife. He got infected in the store where he works. My crown was confirmed on December 15th and ten days later I was taken to the hospital. All I know is that I was cold. My grandfather, who was lying next to me on the chest where we were receiving oxygen, told me that we talked all the time, but I don’t remember anything, until I woke up with a respirator – says Sasha with a barely audible voice. .

The battle for his life lasted just over a month.

– They say that “in the end” I stayed alive, almost, the doctors saved my life. They say if I didn’t have a strong heart and strong lungs, I wouldn’t stay. Who I woke up from on January 5, I didn’t know anything Three days later they took off my respirator and put a mask on me.

When his three-year-old daughter saw him, at first she couldn’t recognize her father.

– I had a big beard and I lost a lot of weight, I left. Before the hospital, I weighed 106 and now I don’t weigh 95 kilograms. When I shaved, she recognized me and was very happy – says Sasha.

Believe it or not, but this is the second time Sasha cheated death.

An incredible destination

– 23 years ago a futsal tripod weighing 250 kilograms fell on my head and I was in a coma for 23 days, I had five clinical deaths and I spent 46 days in the hospital. After three and a half years, I was in the spa to rehab. Since then, I have had a slightly altered center of balance, swayed a little while walking and lost hearing in my left ear, but I had no other health problems.

By the way, Saša’s dismissal from the intensive care unit of the Clinical Center was very emotional. Tears, applause, everyone was there: the sisters, the head of the department, the director of the Clinic, Sasha’s wife and father.

– Travel, Sasha, live and remember how we all fight bravely – told the medical workers of the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Clinic.

Dr. Janković: I couldn’t speak

Prof. Dr. Radmilo Janković, director of the KC Niš Anesthesia and Intensive Care Clinic, says that even after taking off the respirator, Saša’s condition was difficult.

– He spent 12 days on a respirator. He was unable to speak after extubation. We feared that his vocal cords would be irreversibly damaged by prolonged intubation. Fortunately, that afternoon his hoarse voice returned … And after removing the respirator, the condition was very serious. He remained in intensive care, and then we transferred him to our “green” intensive care unit with a negative PCR result and in a much more stable condition, where he continued 24-hour supervision – said prof. Dr. Jankovic.
