The graffiti was on a billboard at the entrance to the Freedom Bridge tunnel, on the Srem side.
On a billboard with a picture of the Novi Sad synagogue and the message “Visit NS”, someone spray-painted “judenfrei” (Nazi term for “non-Jews”) and drew a crossed out Star of David, a symbol of the Jewish people .
This was announced by Mayor Vuevi on his profile on social networks.
“The city government immediately removed these shameful words because we do not want and will not allow irresponsible individuals to ruin what we have nurtured in our city for centuries: the diversity journey. I remind you that Serbs, along with Jews and Roma, they are the people “I assure you that any hateful message like this graffiti will be erased and the perpetrators will be punished,” wrote Vuevi.
Three days ago anti-Semitic graffiti was painted on Ika Stevina Street in Detelinara. That hateful graffiti with the message “Back to the pen” and the crossed out Star of David, appeared during one of the most important Jewish holidays of Hanukkah.
Hate graffiti was cut up by activists from the “Look, burn, you can’t!” made up of representatives of NGOs and opposition political parties, as well as public figures.
Re “gari” in Novi Sad slang means “friend”.
