“I COULDN’T HAVE SILENT NESTOROVIC” Regarding a colleague’s controversial statement, but also on who will be fined up to 150,000 dinars.

Epidemiologist Dr. Predrag Kon explained this morning in which situations an individual can be fined from 50,000 to 150,000 dinars, what will be the maximum penalty for those who violate the measures prescribed by the Law on Protection of the Population against Infectious Diseases, which is argued yesterday.

– Punishment for an individual could be imposed if he intentionally causes infection, if he intentionally does not follow regulations. If someone deliberately tries to sit in a cafe in a place that is prohibited … In addition, the punishment would be if someone avoided taking the test, to carry out the isolation if it is positive – explained Dr. Kon as a guest on the program of the morning on TV Prva.

Especially important measures in transportation.

As he added, in this situation, the most important thing is to guarantee the implementation of distancing measures, mainly in city traffic, when it comes to Belgrade, because transport is a place where people can become infected.

– Everything that was mandatory has now been transferred to the recommendations, which does not mean they are not mandatory, especially for those who are more sensitive. They are obligatory for them, it should be so in their conscience. There are no stricter prohibitions, we have moved to personal responsibility – explained Dr. Kon.

– That measure was adopted when the percentage of infection fell below two percent – said the epidemiologist.

As he said, the possibility of a new access point certainly exists.

Precautions must be taken in public transportation.

Let us remind you, you stated yesterday for RTS that it is certainly not recommended that people over the age of 65 and vulnerable groups use public transportation.

– The percentage of detected cases of coronavirus infection has decreased. However, the recommendation on behavior on public transport is also important, especially for those who are more sensitive and who are over 65 and have chronic illnesses. Therefore, they should avoid transportation at least until the percentage of newly infected relative to the tested drops below 1 percent, and if they already wear it, they should have masks and possibly gloves – Dr. Kon said.

Seeing grandparents with grandchildren is risky

– Relaxation is good on the one hand. Excessive relaxation is not good. We have to move in that intermediate space. We must continue trying to prevent the virus from entering the geronotology centers so that we do not ruin everything towards the end. No one has prevented seeing grandparents with grandchildren, only the contact is the one that is risky. This is somewhat dynamic, the tests are clear indicators of the circulation of the virus, said Dr. Kon.

– When we announce for days that the number of infected is zero, we will know that the risk has stopped. When children are younger, they carry the virus without any problem, so we insist that grandparents not keep them. However, nobody can forbid anything to anyone anymore, says the epidemiologist.

He also predicted what kind of situation awaits us next month.

– I hope, even I am convinced that there will be no virus in June. However, it is possible to detect the virus individually in mid-summer, Dr. Kon said.

Predictions of when grandparents will be able to hug their grandchildren fearlessly are not yet accurate. The explanation of “Blic” for “Blic” explains to what extent such encounters can be a risk for the elderly. Dr. Nada Kuljić Kapulica, virologist at the Military Medical Academy.

– Older citizens have had no contact until now, the children did not go to schools or kindergartens, so they are now partially protected against the virus. Children will likely develop antibodies to the virus for two weeks if they become infected with it, and after a month they are completely safe, so they cannot infect anyone, not even loved ones. However, considering that children still don’t have antibodies and that they may carry the virus completely asymptomatically at any time, he still doesn’t know when they could spend time with their grandparents, explains Professor Dr. Kuljić Kapulica.

Immunologist Srđa Janković has a similar attitude, who spoke on “H1” on May 5 about when grandparents could care for children.

– The important fact is that in this situation, when several groups return to their activities, the worst option would be to convince the grandparents to take care of the children of those parents who have no other alternative, and we avoid it by opening a kindergarten. Of course, the risk is not insignificant, but if we do everything that can be done, we will minimize it and it will certainly be much less than the risk we would have if the children were with their grandparents, Janković said.

About Nestorovic

Epidemiologist Dr. Predrag Kon also commented on Dr. Branimir Nestorović’s opinion that we should all go out and become infected with the coronavirus.

– I am an epidemiologist, my call does not allow me to do that – Kon explained the reason why he could not agree with the opinion of the pulmonologist Nestorović.

– My ideology is epidemiology. I can’t keep it to myself because that’s how it was announced. If not, you wouldn’t even have to talk about it – Dr. Kon concluded.

This is not the first time that epidemiologist Kon disagrees with pulmonologist Nestorović. Two undoubtedly excellent experts, with excellent careers and impressive biographies, listened very carefully, each word was measured, each decision on social media was reviewed on the one hand and unconditionally defended on the other. Dr. Nestorović often sponsored everything with his inflammatory and controversial statements.

First time: on harmonization measures for the May Day holiday

Speaking on “Prva” television, when asked if there is a conflict of policies and measures, considering that there was a disagreement over the holiday measures, Kon noted that conflict is not an acceptable term.

– There was a harmonization of opinions. There is a separate opinion of Professor Nestorović, so there were uneven opinions in the profession. That is the exchange of opinions and finding that solution is acceptable. It must be acceptable to me, there is no other solution. The second solution is to resign again, and that doesn’t make sense, the epidemiologist said at the time, adding that it was not of such proportions that he would consider resigning.

Again: on whether we should all get infected now

For the second time, another disagreement came to light yesterday, May 6. In other words, Dr. Nestorović stated that “now is the time for all of us to go out and infect with the corona virus, because in this way we will be able to obtain immunity and prevent its recurrence, and the possibilities of more serious clinical conditions are almost impossible.”

The same day, at the crisis staff press conference, Dr. Kon, responding to Dr. Nestorović’s question about such an attitude, said the following:

“I think theorizing on that subject is not acceptable, but that is just my opinion,” said Dr. Kon.

He added that the virus is probably weak and “that we as experts can talk to each other that way.”

– But in front of the public, we can’t say “go catch it”. Doctors can speak like this, but epidemiologists cannot. We should pay attention to the strength of the word spoken in public – Kon said.

First, first time: on the smallpox vaccine

The coronary virus pandemic has shown that the profession sometimes has different opinions, and when it comes to Dr. Kon and Dr. Nestorović, let us remind you that a few years ago they had another disagreement regarding an important issue: vaccination against smallpox.

In an interview for “Srpski Telegraf”, Dr. Branimir Nestorović himself spoke about his conflict with Dr. Predrag Kon. At one point Nestorović defended the view that the MMR vaccine has side effects. This also fueled the dangerous ideas of the anti-vaccination lobby, because the relativization of the importance of the vaccine came from the doctors.

Dr. Predrag Kon called Nestorović to account because the consequences of his statements, as he noted, are a complete loss of confidence in influenza immunization and a subsequent loss of confidence in MMR as well.
