There are more and more prospectors for precious truffles in Serbia, and due to the lack of regulations governing this business, everything is done in the gray zone, which generates conflicts between truffle growers.
We witnessed the last one when two brothers lost their lives because the other two truffle brothers allegedly entered the territory and attacked them. According to experienced truffle growers, this work is usually done in secret, for profitability, because large pieces of truffle can cost several (tens of thousands) euros, or for hiding places, because anyone can look for truffles anywhere. And what few people know is that there is a ban on collecting these mushrooms at a certain time of the year, writes Telegraf Biznis.
Also, truffle growers say that the state does not listen to them and ask why Serbia does not make a brand with our truffles. They are especially affected when celebrity chefs come from abroad and bring truffles here and then sell or consume them in other countries.
One of them, as a guest on TV Prva, gave the example that the famous Istrian truffle is actually ours.
“Here he buys truffles and takes them away. There are hundreds of kilograms of truffles, the question is how he gets them out of the country,” asks Petrovic, adding that excellent trout farmers from other countries come to collect precious mushrooms.
“The famous Zigante, he lived in the former Yugoslavia, I met him a few years ago when I was buying truffles in Jagodina,” he said, adding: “He bought a 1,300 gram truffle, which was found near Belgrade. He bought it for 5,000 euros. , and it is estimated at 415,000 dollars in his restaurant in Livade ”, he says and points out that there is still a brand of wax.
Petrovic does not hide that he himself was often in danger due to the unregulated way of collecting, that he tried to avoid conflicts, because it often does not matter whether someone’s plot with a truffle is private or state-owned.
“There were also weapons,” he says, according to Telegraf Biznis.
