In the fields between the settlements of Prigrevica and Stapara, the hunters yesterday found a young crossed eagle (Aquila heliaca) exhausted.

The hunters immediately informed Nenad Sprem, a member of the Society for the Protection and Study of Birds of Serbia, who approached the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Nature.

On the same day, the Institute took care of the bird and transported it to the ZOO Refuge in Palić. Due to the suspicion that it was poisoning, the eagle received appropriate therapy and was later placed in an aviary.

Based on the ring on the leg, it was determined that it was a young bird that hatched in Slovakia during the year. The next day the eagle looked better, got up and straightened its head. Experts hope that the recovery will continue in the right direction and that there will soon be opportunities for the bird to be released into the wild.

The poisoning of raptors is a serious and continuous factor that endangers nature and the environment, against which the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Nature fights in various ways, including the international project PANNON EAGLE.

The cross eagle is one of the rarest and most endangered bird species in Serbia, with only three known nesting pairs.
