Was the Belgrade City Traffic Company ready to welcome September 2000 and 2020, or did the citizens of Belgrade prefer to walk?

The city’s transport company changes its work regime during the year in order to follow the needs of the citizens. In the fall of 2000, the thin lines intensified due to schoolchildren returning to their desks, but also to employees who had completed summer vacation.

“Of the 233 vehicles in transit that we found on the day of the introduction of temporary measures by the Government of Serbia, we had 380 of the 400 vehicles a day in summer time, and as of today there will be 568,” said the then director. Acting General of the GSP, Zoran Milosevic.

On that occasion, he pointed out that another 40 Mercedes vehicles and 15 trolleybuses from Russia’s Engels are expected to be delivered. With this reinforcement, the expected 580 technically correct vehicles were to be achieved.

“After the delivery of the 50 repaired Ikarbus buses, the orderly arrival of the 100 ordered vehicles from this manufacturer is expected,” said Milosevic, adding that 10 more FAP buses will arrive in October.

GSP strives, as stated, to maintain the correct vehicle schedule to avoid evening “outages.”

“In planning public hours, special attention is paid to suburban transport, which is the most critical. With the arrival of new vehicles, most will refer to these lines because the central parts of the city are solidly” covered “by the network. of trams and trolleybuses. That is why I consider incorrect the accusations of some media that Belgraders will go on foot in the fall. The transport will be and will be better than before “- the Danas newspaper reported the words of the director of GSP Belgrade.

Almost 20 years have passed since this cross-section of the situation, and during that time, the capital’s public transport has undergone numerous transformations.

As Belgrade has been one of the most polluted cities in the world for days, in early 2020 the city authorities and the GSP sent messages about an ambitious and expensive plan for the transition to green energy.

“In the next period, during the next few years, the condition for each new bus purchase will be the push for alternative fuels instead of diesel,” said GSP Director Belgrade Radisa Momcilovic, adding that the company will give “the maximum contribution to clean the air in Belgrade. “

The citizens of Belgrade would surely forgive all the shortcomings of transportation, when it was first lifted during the state of emergency, and then restrictions on its use were imposed with special permits. The peace and quiet of the incredibly deserted streets was disturbed by a few cars, and those who have the privilege or need to take a taxi out of necessity.

Failed displays by authorities and crisis personnel to organize transportation ended with the transfer of responsibility to passengers: the mandatory use of masks and the request to use the entrance and exit doors of the vehicle in a certain order.

With the anti-epidemic measures that we are more or less used to, we were greeted by an “operational” September with new promises from the GSP that the transport will work perfectly.

According to the Ministry of Public Transport and GSP, the number of passengers in transport was monitored, based on which the work regime was adjusted.

A greater number of vehicles will be on lines 17, 18, 23, 29, 33, 37, 48, 56, 95, 511 and 551, as well as on commuter line 441.

As of September 4, passenger transport will be carried out with 1,371 vehicles on urban lines and with 259 vehicles on suburban and local lines, the Secretariat announced.
