According to announcements from the municipal administration, in 2021 there will be 300 more vehicles on the streets of the Serbian capital and the number of points of sale with longer working hours for issuing subscription tickets will double.
The news announced in the system is due to the change of company that deals with the collection of tickets, but until the middle of next year, it will not affect the citizens of Belgrade.
What is the “bus plus” set?
The replenishment of existing public transport cards in Belgrade will continue to work as usual, as the contract with the company “Apex Solution”, which has been running “Bus Plus” until now, has been extended by an annex until a new partner.
All cards can be recharged at points of sale where it could have been done so far.
Seniors don’t need to get new cards for now
Citizens over 65, and there are 46,000 of them, whose card has expired because the validity period is three years, are entitled to recharge old cards from December 31, which will be valid until June 1, and when replacing the old ones. for new recharges, they will be automatically transferred to the new cards, so your transport tickets will be valid practically throughout 2021.
An international tender was announced yesterday for the selection of a new company that will deal with the issuance of public transport tickets in Belgrade, and the city administration explained what changes will be made in the next period in relation to the previous Busplus system.
The principle of two wallets
The new “Belgrade card” will work on the principle of two wallets, where one can pay for a transport ticket and the other can replenish and thus pay for the use of public bicycles, parking, go to theaters, cinemas and get discounts in stores .

It is expected to improve the functionality of the system and the equipment – the ability to pay by mobile phone through the application that will be able to inform passengers in real time about delays, changes, schedule changes, as well as send notifications about expiration, replenishment or validation of the personalized or non-personalized card.
The city may hire drivers
The new contract also stipulates that if a greater number of controllers are needed, the City Council can hire them independently, which, as mentioned, achieves greater flexibility and optimization of the entire system.
In addition, the private partner is expected to share in the additional costs in case of hiring additional drivers in the same percentage as the percentage of the fare from the ticket sales revenue.
The new partner of the City of Belgrade, who will participate in the collection of transport tickets and in the management of public transport vehicles, will be elected for 13 years, and the registration period for interested companies is limited to February 25, next year.
The cooperation is expected to be based on the public-private partnership model based on a study on public transport in the capital, prepared by the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering of the University of Belgrade.
In September this year, the ten-year contract that the Belgrade City Council had with the company “Apex Solution” expired, which created the Busplus system for collecting tickets and driving vehicles on public transport in the capital, but due to Due to the coronavirus epidemic, the contract was extended until the new partner is selected. according to the law.
