Although it sounds incredible for someone to tell you that 2020 was one of the best years so far, there are cases of this type. And we are not talking only about individuals and companies, but about the place and city in Serbia where they claim that the previous year was one of the best.

The place of Kukujevci, which we said before has a sad name, but that anything but sad, now only confirms it. The town of Srem in Sid municipality, with about 2,000 inhabitants, where all healthy people earn a salary, did not escape the difficulties of 2020, not even the opposite.

Last year, they hired all the healthy people, but not only them, but also many of the surrounding places during the summer season. And as residents tell us, the only thing that has changed during this pandemic is growth, by at least 10 percent.

That is, in Kukujevci, small family businesses have become serious business stories that grow every year and additionally employ. On the other hand, traditional agricultural crops have gone beyond families and become market oriented. This town of Vojvodina, even today, despite the coronary virus pandemic, has no problems with employment and birth rates.

“The only thing that can be considered in danger due to the crown are the closed cafes, so we cannot have coffee so that, otherwise, the rest is not noticed in the town,” said Sinisa Rekic, owner of the company from Aso-Ler car services, to Blic Biznis. “from Kukujevac.

The companies in this place are represented in various activities: the locals are engaged in meat processing, sale of vulcanization equipment, but the place is also known for its goat farm. There is also an agricultural cooperative, because several households have apple and pear plantations, and tobacco is grown on more than 1,200 hectares in the Kukujevo area.

As our interlocutor points out, everyone is in black: the construction and meat industry, as well as the farmers.

“We are, say, 10 percent better than last year, which is impressive. We know the situation is similar in construction, because our colleagues tell us that more construction materials were sold than last year. As for agriculture, this year was one of the best and in terms of climate it affected all crops, but also, let’s say, the prices of corn, apples, tobacco … ”, says Rekić.

He adds that the tobacco season was completely normal, regardless of the virus, which is why many seasonal workers were also hired who came from other places.

“Whoever wants to work is in the black. There is no branch that is in danger due to the virus and everything that happened,” says Rekić.

Explaining that everything continued and got better, despite the virus pandemic, Rekić jokingly added that everyone, if nothing else, painted the gates and fences.

“Our company operates abroad and there were delays, but that did not affect the whole business at all, we are 10 percent stronger. This year we stimulate the workers through the thirteenth salary, which means morality for all ”, says our interlocutor.

In Kukujevci, in addition to the work that supports the youth in this part of Vojvodina, there are various associations such as the Women’s Association, the Hunting Association, but also the Retirees Association, as well as the “Obilić” football club. And they found a way to socialize and work during the pandemic.

They did this, for example, by organizing the New Year’s Fair, where help was collected for those who needed it.

Besides working people, this place also has a railway, and it is located near the Belgrade-Zagreb highway, which also speaks in favor of the development of private businesses on the one hand and the attraction of new investments on the other.

A few years ago, the village of Kukujevci received the award for the most successful village in Serbia and now, for example, we can be proud of the successful fight against the impact of the corona virus on companies.
