The head of nephrology at the Military Medical Academy, Djoko Maksic, who is also a professor at the Faculty of Medicine, was sentenced to 10 months of house arrest without electronic supervision for accepting bribes from patients, based on an agreement concluded with the Ministry Senior Public.

According to the verdict by which the High Court upheld the agreement, Maksic was also banned from working as a medical-nephrologist worker for one year, and the verdict became final, the Belgrade High Court said. He is also obliged to pay the costs of the criminal proceedings.

The verdict became final on June 26, just three weeks after he was arrested earlier that month.

Immediately after his arrest, three patients who gave him bribes at the hearing admitted their guilt and reached agreements with the prosecution on suspended prison terms.

Maksic was monitored for a long time in cooperation between the prosecution and the Ministry of Defense, and was convicted of the crime of taking bribes for an extended period.
