For the second day in a row, the number of new infections exceeded the figure of 2000, and today that black trend could continue. Due to the increasingly difficult epidemiological situation, the Crisis Team for the fight against kovid-19 will meet today at noon, and there is already much speculation about what could be on the agenda.
The new measures should be in focus due to the increasingly serious situation with the corona virus in schools.
Holidays or online classes?
Long vacations, which were mentioned as an option by the Minister of Education, Branko Ružić, are an option for, as Dr. Predrag Kon says, primary schools.
– In elementary schools, we are seriously thinking about the fact that it would be useful to extend the holidays. The system is designed so that classes don’t have to be shortened, but when you’re already on vacation, it makes sense to extend it. There were groups in three secondary schools in Belgrade. There were 61 new cases of the infection in secondary schools and 57 in elementary schools last week, which is two and a half times more than before and that number will increase. We would combine long vacations with other measures that can be applied – says Dr. Kon.
As for primary schools, a total of 47 students and 34 teachers were infected last week, according to data that “Blic” received from the Ministry of Education.
The new minister confirmed yesterday for “Blic” that the reorganization of teaching is being seriously considered through a statement.
– Due to the current epidemiological situation, the Crisis Staff will consider the need for a different organization of educational work in primary and secondary schools. Classes in schools will be organized in the best interest of students and employees, “said First Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia and Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Branko Ruzic.
Elementary school students were unable to go to school for the next week. As things stand now, the crisis staff could make the decision that elementary school students will have classes online on Mondays and Tuesdays, and then they will be on so-called mini fall break for the next three days.
The final decision will be made today at noon in the crisis staff session. As they say for “Blic” in the Ministry of Education, there is the option of not having regular classes the first two days, but that primary school students have classes online.
Special restrictions for Belgrade?
One of the measures mentioned in public opinion these days are certain restrictions on circulation in the capital. In Belgrade, there is a renewed growth of patients with the coronavirus, and the epidemiological situation nationwide is turning from unfavorable to extraordinary, epidemiologist Dr. Predrag Kon noted yesterday.

The measures exist, but are not respected
While waiting for the reform of the Law for the Protection of the Population against Infectious Diseases, so that communal inspectors and militiamen could sanction non-compliance with epidemiological measures, members of the Crisis Staff, the epidemiologist Dr. Predrag Kon and the immunologist Dr. Srdja Jankovic spoke about the measures that they would introduce urgently.
The measures that are in force refer to the mandatory use of a mask indoors, respecting physical distance, as well as the prohibition of meeting for more than 30 people, but still, due to the increase in the number of corona infected with the virus in the last days, Dr. Kon and Dr. Janković some other measures that they are defending. In other words, they both agree that a curfew is not the solution now.
Contact ban
In addition to the measure of mandatory use of the mask outdoors, Dr. Predrag Kon has been talking a lot in recent days about the prohibition of contact to prevent further spread of the virus, since the measures in the form of recommendations are not respected enough.
– When we do not fully respect the measures, the way out of the situation is to avoid contacts altogether. I once said that we should officially implement the dating ban and make sure what we ask for is fulfilled. When should it be taken? Yesterday. It is necessary to act immediately – Kon pointed out.
How to avoid the curfew?
In addition to Dr. Kona, Dr. Janković says that the wish is to avoid curfew, but that the next measure could be to reduce the number of people gathered in one place.
– The number of new infected is the most important parameter when looking at the number of tested, but we do not make a decision about quarantine only on the basis of that parameter. For now, measures are in place that, if we all implement them, could significantly reduce the increase. Restriction of coffee operation

Dr. Branislav Tiodorović says that when the number exceeds 2,000, the only effective measures are to close all bars after 9 pm and limit the gathering to a maximum of five people.
